I'm thinking of purchasing a push cart, but am guessing I'll hear about it from my buddies and will likely feel pretty self conscious about using it for awhile. But I'm wanting to get back into the game this year and want to walk rather than ride. What is the consensus on push carts? Only for the olds? Should I expect to get made fun of for it?

I'm 37 and have used one for years. Don't give a **** what anyone says. Also use a Sunday bag and carry some.

In my mid 30s and the push cart was a game changer for me when I purchased one around 2016. It made me appreciate the game and courses very differently than I did just riding in a cart all the time. I also stay looser the whole round without long periods of sitting and waiting for the next shot. Save money on cart fees and get exercise. I highly recommend one.

I would have one if my club made us pay for carts. I think they're a great way to keep the body moving

I bought one last March. Finally used it last week. It changes the game. I was paired with a dude in a cart, so I spent the whole round trying to keep up. I will use it more in the future, hopefully they pair me with other push carters. 6-7 miles is a pretty decent walk. I was tired when I finished and I work out and do cardio.

I'm 36 and bought one during quarantine and use it any chance it's nice out. I've also never had anyone talk crap about it either, lots of people are getting them now.

Why carry your bag? We're not in high school anymore and you don't look like a tough guy carrying one.

How old is old? I am 57. I walked and carried about 140 rounds last year. I would definitely laugh at you.

And FWIW, I find it easier to carry a lightweight bag than to push a cart around.

Your buddies are gonna be the self conscious ones riding in a cart while you get exercise. F what they think. Do what makes you happy.

The course that I played at would have more people using push carts since they were free. Only the older folks were the ones running around in golf carts.

I bought a push cart at 35 and think they're great. No reason to carry my bag and deal with club chatter all round when I can push and have a cup holder.

That's more positive responses than I anticipated. Thanks for the feedback.

Username checks out..

But why would you laugh at pushcart users? Do you sand the divots or do you just sweep it pure? How do you carry the sand bottle? Do you carry water? Do you not carry a ball retriever, MISIG and a battery operated blower?

What's so funny?

OP,

I have a Caddytek 3 wheel with front swivel wheel. It has a supply pouch, cooler bag, drink holder, sand bottle holder, lidded storage, umbrella holder... and available chair attachment.

I will need a battery operated blower holder for next fall.

I have over 300 rounds in this sucka and it's still going strong.

do it.

Make sure it's strong enough to also handle blowing those pesky seeds as well…..

I'm 43, I walk 95% of the rounds I play on my course. I'll ride for scrambles and some courses I travel to play (depending). I have a pushcart and used it predominately over carrying because it saves my legs, but more importantly my back, until recently I purchased a 2.2 lb Titleist golf bag.

I like the fact I can run with my pushcart. I know that might sound foreign with golf, but I have drop foot and Parkinson's, and if my medicine isn't kickin' in right then my right legs drags, which causes me to drag behind on the pace I want to keep. So, for me, running can be so much easier at times when the meds aren't in full effect than when walking.

However, I have walked a majority the past 4-6 months with the lightweight bag because it it allows me to walk across the green and set my bag toward the next tee box, rather than walking around the greens. Also, its been more efficient than my push cart due to the rain and some marked off areas.

When summer comes around I'll probably be back to the push cart, but regardless I don't care what others say about using a pushcart. I use it and they've got to deal. I would say, since I've been walking, many of the other 10 guys in the group I typically play with are usually walking now as well.

My buddies and I are all late twenties to early thirties. We walk as many rounds as we can.

  • Cheaper
  • Stay loose
  • More focus as you're only concerned about your ball (no more driving to your terrible buddies ball 2-3 times between your shots)
  • We play faster
  • Sneaky way to unknowingly walk 6-8 miles so you don't have to feel bad about not working out that day.
  • Get a head start on your dad calves

It's the way to go.

I use my cliq gear push cart during fall months and early spring.

If you walk I always have a small cart bag.
Small bag of peanuts or granola bar
Charging block
Lare yeti
Liquid IV r some other water flavoring
Small speaker if I am playing solo

Push carts are the norm among regulars at my home course these days. Had some knee issues in the late spring and rode most of the summer and got made fun of more for riding than walking. I definitely play better golf when I walk.

I'm 46. As a junior golfer if you showed up with a push cart anywhere you identified yourself as a non golfer.

Now my kids play junior golf, all these kids have them. Times have changed.

Our course has free carts but there's a decent chunk of walkers with push carts. I've never heard a word from anyone or even seen a second look go their way

I think push carts are now acceptable

Were push carts prevalent when you were young? I remember there were plenty of "pull" carts but I'm not sure I saw too many push carts.

Pull cart is more difficult to maneuver in my opinion.

I like riding when it's hot and I like pushing when the weather is nice. I can't carry anymore bc my back won't last, but it's just a different experience. Much more fun.

Nobody had a push cart when I was a kid, because they were pull carts. Still nobody used them you got laughed at. Now they're everywhere and I use one. Makes the walk less strenuous.

The bolded bullet is huge. Also, a push/pull cart makes mushy "cart path only" days a total non-issue. I hate schlepping out to my ball from a golf cart with multiple clubs only to find the distance or lie requires something else.

Can y'all please offer some recommendations on push carts? Looks like they all fit a stand bag. I'd like to find one that has good reliability/longevity, is easy to steer/use and collapse to put in a vehicle, and has a cup holder. I guess a small area for some drinks would be beneficial. My bag has a valuables pouch and I don't really need a scorecard holder or umbrella holder.

Look for one with a hand brake. My footbrake is a pain in the butt.

I have this one and love it. This 4-wheel caddytek checks all the boxes.

I have a caddtek as well and the only negative it the foot brake, I'd prefer a hand brake vs trying to find that damn lever with my foot.

I've never had any issue with the foot brake and I play a pretty hilly home course. Always thought the hand brake was one more thing that could break.

BigMax IQ+ for a hand brake. I've had this one for close 3 years and it is still in perfect working condition. 200+ rounds on it. The ease and convenience of the handbrake is something you didn't know you were missing until you have one.

You can also buy a really nice rain cover for this one that clicks into the cart, which I have as well.

I'd spend the extra cash for a Clicgear.

They're built like tanks.

Not sure about newer models... 4.0 etc but many previous clicgears sag resulting in the bottom of the bag rubbing the front wheel. This is a known issue and a simple fix is to tighten the bolt but it can strip and or it will loosen again.

Had mine for 3 years now and love it. I still ride mostly, but if I'm walking I always push. I prefer a cart bag because why not? So, it means I can maintain one bag whether walking or riding and carry more than I'd ever need. If you're carrying, you're skimping on things like sun screen and rain layer, extra gloves, balls etc. get the cart, you'll love it

I am 63, but have had one for 20 plus years. Never have felt self conscious about a push cart. I own my own cart and live on the course. I use my cart to get to the clubhouse. Walk 18 with a pushcart and load it back up and come home. Nice 6 mile walk while I get to play the greatest game ever invented! Win win.
