Where do tour pro golfers live?

Do they live on fancy courses, so they can just take their cart to work? Do they live in townhomes, because they are gone a lot and can't keep the place up? I can see both sides of this. Being late 20's, living on a course out in the burbs surrounded by old farts sounds awful and I would need an escape from my day job. However, these guys aren't wired like normal folks and would probably love to live on a fancy course and go hit the putting green during halftime of whatever game they are watching. I am sure it varies from player to player and all the other canned responses. Anybody have any anecdotes on this?

The Mecca is near West Palm Beach/Jupiter area. High concentration of players and clubs.

A lot of major cities in the south have pockets of players though. Scottsdale, Dallas, Woodlands, Southern California, Vegas.

The home selection of each player varies. Tiger used to live right across the street from the Isleworth practice facility. Guys like JT and Cam Smith live near boat docks though, wanting their home life to be separate from their golf lives. Just depends on the player.

There are a bunch of YouTube videos out there where they tour the homes of PGA players. Cam Smith definitely enjoys himself.

I don't think this is really a concern for people that make millions of dollars per year. They are paying people to do it whether they're there or not. Hell, a significant portion of upper middle class people are paying others to maintain their lawn and clean the house.

They live where the hell they want to live.

I'd have to think states with no income tax and year round favorable weather for golf yet somewhat central location with easy access to major airports.

Florida.

Close to airports. Tom Kim said in an interview that he chose Dallas because of the korean population, a lot of golf, and close to an airport that goes everywhere.

Unless you're Steve Stricker, most are in Florida or Arizona and some here in Texas. Gotta be able to practice year round.

Wait til he buys his own plane. Then he can go everywhere from everywhere.

Los Angeles has a huge Korean Population and has airports that goes everywhere.

But CA has stupid state income tax among other things.

No state income tax is a big factor for these guys.

I think it depends on how they pay them selves and if they set up an llc. They're always paying cali taxes if they make money in cali, so it's moot if they live in Florida. It probably helps a little bit if you live in az but win in Florida.

Regardless they're paying the tax man. If Florida has cali taxes, with weather/courses, most guys would still live there.

I would imagine is saves quite a bit of taxes on endorsement deals and investment income.

Chris is a member at Houston Oaks. He's on a major medical as I understand it. He had a top 10 at the RSM in the fall so hopefully he gets full status back.

Lives in Benders Landing Estates. Not really ideal for proximity to golf courses.

Glad he likes it, cause that black and white thing is awful. And the F word everywhere with that little kid is not exactly the way we do it in my house.

Dallas is a major hub for PGA tour golfers. You could legitimately make a Ryder cup team of Dallas guys. Spieth, Scheffler, Zalatoris, Dechambau, Tom Kim, Si woo, Ryan Palmer, Davis Riley, Carlos Ortiz, and Sebastian Munoz. Not to mention all the really good amateurs and Korn Ferry players. Most of the studs play Dallas National and get in for about 75k. Other tour pro hot spots are Maridoe, Trinity Forest, and Vaquero.

There's a ton more I know I'm missing, but Max Mcgreevy lives here, Tom Hoge lives in Fort Worth, Martin Piller and Michael Kim are here. Hunter Mahan is still here as well.

Can't leave out the great Lee Trevino as well

Our local pro, Shawn Stefani, lives down the road from me here in Mont Belvieu near Eagle Pointe. He had a pretty good stretch as a journeyman pro from 2012-2020 and amassed nearly $7MM in earnings but has struggled since on the Korn Ferry. He's a good guy and I frequently see him headed to the course with his kids and he plays in my father in laws group at times. Would be great to see him work his way back to tour status.
