Just briefly scanning this, this looks like a complete waste of time and was a terrible idea by Reed. For one, unless Chamblee has a second residence in Texas, I don't see how there is personal jurisdiction. There's a very good chance this gets bounced on a Rule 12(b)(2) motion. Basically, Chamblee will argue that he does not have sufficient contacts with Texas to justify being hauled into court and having to defend himself there. The complaint certainly doesn't identify any facts supporting jurisdiction. But, setting that aside, defamation is virtually impossible to prove in Texas, particularly if you are a public figure (which Reed is). Chamblee will likely also seek dismissal under Rule 12(b)(6) (failure to state a claim). This just looks like a loser on multiple levels and the only person who will come out ahead is the lawyer who talked him into doing this.

I'd prefer they put on boxing gloves and duke it out.

The lawyer, Larry Klayman, is a well known shyster that routinely files frivolous defamation cases. I doubt Reed is personally paying him anything.

I hope the judge is particularly snarky when this thing gets dismissed.

Pretty rare, but count me on Team Chamblee on this one. Reed has been proven to be a cheater and everyone knows it.

So what's the play, then? Publicity? Hard to make a living filing frivolous suits on contingency.

Sadly, there are lots of people out there that fund these grifter lawyers. So Klayman gets paid on other frivolous cases (such as using to have Obama deported) that enable him to take cases like this on contingency even though likelihood of every getting a dime is remote.

I can only see one potential positive, and this is somewhat doubtful.

If it makes Chamblee pause for just one second and think before opening his arrogant know-it-all mouth, that would be a good thing for all. He's one of those rare personalities that when he launches into a monologue, I instantly reach for the remote.

I like the sentiment, but I doubt it happens.

Actual legal professionals can weigh in here, but my thinking is that Brandel is likely victorious in this, and it'll probably just embolden him to be an even larger irritant.

Since you are so in tune, tell us what you think they should do and why. And please explain why you want them to fail.

The tour has to do what it legally can to try and prevent other top players from defecting. It's been forced into an issue with another entity (LIV) that does not have to operate under the same rules..mainly profitability. The individual players on the tour are what the PGAT has to sell to companies for its sponsorships, so if another entity is poaching these players, it's only natural to act in a way of self preservation. You think they should partner up with LIV? That would be in direct contradiction of the brand the tour has built. The LIV is a cancer to that brand and you fail to comprehend that. Any actions the PGAT is taking is coming from the players, not Monaghan.

I don't want them to fail. Unfortunately, there isn't much they can do now, but pray as it appears they mismanaged the Saudis and did a horrible job representing the best interests of the players.

They should have sat down with Saudi Golf when they asked to discuss growing the game in the middle east. It was reported they wanted to sponsor more tournaments from the various tours with the goal being to eventually have a tour like the Asian Tour. PGAT wouldn't even have a conversation with them and supposedly pressure the DP World Tour to cut discussions as well. That embarrassed and pissed off a prideful group that has more money than the tour can dream of having. So now you have LIV golf.

And they better pray. The first lawsuit was a joke as is this one from Reed. However, I think it's very likely there was and still is collusion and most likely anti-trust violations by the PGAT in their desperation to keep it viable. As well as the administration hoping they get to keep their jobs. If the players decide it's been mishandled or the PGAT didn't act in the player's best interests by not even having conversations with potential sponsors, it could get ugly.

What would the PGAT do if FedEx decides it doesn't want to be connected anymore because of the way the Saudis treat women and gays? Now imagine every sponsor has concerns and decides we'll do it, but for $2 million less than the last contract. Then, the Saudis kick in the extra money to make up the losses..
