Just finished at St. Andrews. Such a magical day.

Weather was perfect - 65 degrees and 10 mph winds.

It's a hotel behind the 18th green

The R&A requested they add 70 rooms if they want to host another British open but they almost just break even now and they don't want to add rooms unless someone else pays for it. The hotel is separate from the course

Change of plans

Got in line at st andrews to get on the list to walk on tomorrow. I'm gonna try and sleep in this golf cart about 15 yards off the first tee. I'm 6th in line

We stopped at the R&A and took some pictures through the windows

Keep your fingers crossed. Tomorrow is last of public play before the open...

We got on! In fact all 8 of us got on. Some had to play as a single joining 3 others but we all got to play. The last guys are just about to make the turn.

Wind was blowing 30 mph and it rained about half the time.

What a way to end the week! Last day for public play before they shut it down for the open

So to bring it full circle

My dad, my brother and I came to Scotland 10 years ago and played a bunch of courses but didn't play St Andrews. Figured we would all come back multiple times. Well life happens and dad got cancer. He passed away rather quickly and we never got to come play the old course.

We did however get a picture on the swolken bridge 10 years ago. So needless to say my brother and I got another picture and my caddie took a picture of us hugging before we walked off. Tough day for my brother and I but this just what Dad would have wanted us to do...keep taking golf trips and keep making memories. Don't put things off with those you love, nothing is gauranteed

I don't have the picture of all 3 of us on my phone but here is dad walking off the bridge 10 years ago

Excellent thread and write up.

Even though you didn't get to play St. Andrews with your dad, its great that yall were able to establish some great golf memories while he was alive. Its also great that you and your brother were able to return and establish another memorable moment.

Also, kudos to the whole crew for being troopers and camping out to get on the old course. Special honors to the guy in the A&M beanie. Can't share that experience with everyone - all won't appreciate it. Has to be awesome to be part of such a group.

Thank you very much for a wonderful compilation of your trip. Myself, and three buddies are making the trip in August. We have a condo in St. Andrews, and are looking forward to having a cold beer with Sheena and Jack at the Dunvegan.

If you have time, could you tell us some of the things you wished you would/wouldn't have done? it was obvious that y'all prepared for the weather correctly. Did y'all do some sight seeing? What is something we shouldn't miss?
