Anyone had any experience with flying clubs a Soft golf bag cover on Southwest Airlines, domestic?

Policy is vague other than hard cases and says they will accept soft bags conditionally. I imagine that just means it is in good shape and not ripped but can't get anyone on the phone to confirm.

They accept soft bags. They won't pay for damage if using a soft bag. I use a club protector and some extra towels and have never had an issue.

If using a soft bag, be sure to use/buy the "stiff arm". Last trip on Southwest they bent my "stiff arm", but that sacrifice saved my woods/irons.

Use a soft bag every time, I just take my driver apart and pack the head in the cover and the shaft stays in the bag. Only because that's the club that has been broken before and my most important club to my game.

bingo. Same thing here. They bent my stiff arm a few years ago (still works). I now detach my driver head and move my putter to the center of the bag underneath the stiff arm.

I've flown Southwest with a soft bag. I use the "stiff arm", wrap one of my wife's yoga mats around the clubs and then add a couple towles around the heads for extra padding. No issues.

Last time I flew SW with a bag, it didn't make the flight. Arrived the next day after my tee time. Had to play with borrowed clubs.

I always fly SW for golf trips and never had a problem. I have a soft travel bag so I remove the driver and 3 wood head, and put my shoes over the rest of the clubs

I've flown southwest numerous times in past couple years and have used a soft bag. I just take driver head off shaft and wrap the club heads with a jacket/towel/clothes. Never had an issue… but upgrading to a hard case is on my list of golf upgrades to come. Just like the peace of mind.

I went hard case 6 or 7 years ago. Never worry about my clubs now. Only downside is the amount of room it takes up in a rental vehicle at your destination, if you're using one. Have to have some kind of van or large SUV, or it's riding in the back seat of a sedan.

You sign a waiver saying damages aren't covered just losses. But I've traveled with my soft sided travel bag 30+ times. No issues so far.
