6500-6700 yds

I thought since are handicap question went well. I'd try and see where everyone's playing from.

This way when we take over a centralized golf course for our 1st Annual Texags Shootout we'd know where to put the tees.

Always have a hard time with this. I'm not a great player (16.4 handicap) but I've always been a long hitter. I generally try to play from about 6600-6900 yds which is usually the tips or just in front of those.

9 hcp and avg distance player, usually like to stick between 6400-6700 depending on course difficulty, which is usually one up from tips.

I go based off of the 5iron distance x 36

Usually ~6,300 but a Par 71.

Not to sound like an ass, but if you're a 16 you don't need to be playing from the tips. Golf is already hard enough, no need to make it even harder.

I agree, that's why I have a hard time with it. Can't tell you how many par 4s that I end up with a 30-70 yd 2nd shot and that is my El guapo. I'm a master at making bogey or double from 50yds out. So playing from back tees leaves me 100-150 yds out and honestly I feel like I do better as those are full club distances for me.

Guess I should move up and play shorter off the tee, but that's not much fun and I don't score any better.

Really just need to work on short game.

I recently changed to a different group that plays about 300 yds shorter. I like it fine because of the people I'm playing with but it's a different game and for a 12-14 index in his 60s its more enjoyable in general

So now 6,100 vs 6,400

I'm a 12 and play one ups. We have two courses so one is 6500 and one is 6800. Both par 72. I wouldn't mind playing the two ups on the longer course since a couple par 3s and a couple par 4s eat my lunch, but I haven't bitten that bullet yet.

I was a 2 hdcp for more than 15 years. I'm 62 years old now, and still play pretty comfortably to a 5. I play a max of 6800 yards. At the courses I frequent, thats one set of tees up from the tips.

6500 plus minus 200 yards sea level.

I am the same way, at a 13 who is pretty long, but I'll challenge you on the fact that you won't score better from shorter tees. If you start playing up tees more regularly your scores will drop because the bad drives are much less punitive and you'll find yourself taking shorter clubs off the tee and hitting a lot more greens

I'm a 13. I always play from the one ups on both our courses because I play in all of our club tournaments and <65 year olds are required to play from these tees.

Blue Tees - 6,613 yards for Sunday's game where the majority plays.

Gold Tees - 6,966 yards for the majority of my other rounds

About 6300 on a par 70 or 71 rotation with our normal weekend group with a wide spread of handicaps. About 6600 from our tips any chance I get. When I get out to other courses I try to shoot for 6800-7200.

I'm about a 5 hdcp and have always been long. Length of the course doesn't affect me until it gets out to 7,200 to 7,300 yards. Bigger problem for me is the short game. Oh, and I'm 65.

Sweet spot for me is 6400-6700. When I was at Golfcrest they had 5 sets of tees, we always played the blues which measured a little over 6700 and that was pushing it. A few years back they adopted a split tee policy, rotating between blue/white on different holes. that brought the total down to 6500 and honestly game was alot more fun and scores started dropping. Playing the white alone was too short at the time, around 6300 or less sometimes. I was playing around 5HCP or less at the time.

When I play alone I like to play back at 7043, and with buddies usually 6651 blues or 6004 whites

I had never heard this. It appears I am playing the wrong tees. Thanks.

This is exactly why you should move up and play tees more appropriate for your skill level.

I'm a 3 and mostly play one-ups unless the course is unusually short. Played more tips back in the day and I haven't lost any distance (47 now), but I just find the variety of clubs I hit from the one-ups to be more fun. Also, my regular golf buddies, while all single digits, are a little shorter (I'm the youngest by about 4-5 years which is part of it) and prefer one-ups, and I enjoy playing the same tees as them

According to this rating I should be in the 6800 yds. This index hasn't seen my driver lately

10-4. I'll move up for my next few rounds and see how it goes.

I'm listed as a 4. I would say I'm moderately longer than average with driver, and even longer than average with irons (270-280 driver, 175-180 7 iron).

I play wherever my group wants if it's a casual round. If the tee box is further forward or back than I would have picked for myself, I use it as a chance to hit some clubs I wouldn't normally hit.

As for myself, my scoring average doesn't really change much between 6,200-6,800. Anything under 6,200, birdie chances go up a lot. Anything over 6,800, scores definitely go up, but scrambling is one of the better parts of my game so missing greens doesn't scare me as much, I just have to pick where I can afford to miss.

I'm 65, low single digit, and play at about 6350. Moved up to these tees a couple of years ago. I play our back tees in tournaments when I have to, but, in medal play, I just have a hard time scoring competitively against our younger good players who hit it longer than me. Over 18 holes, and more surely over 36 holes, their length is going to win out when they're hitting at least 2 clubs less than me on par-3's/approach shots, and coming close to or reaching our par-5's in 2. I'm fine with the course length I play, and usually opt for shorter tees when I travel.

Ditto, Duckhook. Most of my struggles now are in between shots where the feel in my hands is the same as it was when I was 15% longer, but that damn ball just refuses to go as far.

Based on this I'm at 6300, which is interesting because my home course is par 71 and it is 6447 from the 1 ups so I'm right on it.

I'm a 7.8.

Depends on the course and company.

Personally I like to play the tips but not many people do, 1 up works too at most courses. I don't find it fun playing from more than 1 up. My score doesn't change no matter the Tees. If I'm too far forward I feel like I'm not playing the course as designed and I don't like hitting 6-4 iron off every tee. Again very course dependant.

I play the white tees there simply because I feel like I haven't shot the score to play the blues. I've never broken 80 on the course.

That being said I only hit driver on 5 holes from the white tees. I'm just not hitting enough greens to shoot well.

I'm around a 13 handicap.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Good courses tell you where to play from based on your handicap. If you're a 16, you should never play from anywhere near the tips, regardless of how far you can hit your driver.

I'm a 9 and never consider playing from the back tees. It's not fun at all.

Every course is different and you can't base the tees you play on the yardage. Take Pebble for example. It's actually a really short course, even from the back, but good luck if you aren't 5 or better.

This thread is hilarious...

We all hit our 9 iron like Dechambooooooooooo. Awesome!

You may hit your driver 300. but it aint in the fairway all the time. So now from the tips, your 200 out, I supposed that's just a 9 iron.

How many courses in the DFW metroplex are 6800 yards from the blues?

The question is about yardage not criticizing the post. Find something better to do with your time then to criticize others.

Stay on the up tees and don't pull your driver out on every tee box, it will work out better in the long run.
