For those living in Austin, what is yalls favorite driving range to go to? I went to Jimmy Clay today and the whole complex is really nice but the driving range has been used so much it was pretty much just sand. I live downtown and dont mind driving ~20 minutes. A place with a nice putting and chipping green is also ideal.

The Round Rock driving range. It's a 20 minutes from downtown but it's the best one I've found. Huge chipping green and also has a few greens to work on 100 yards and in.

I was at Clay last weekend and that is not an exaggeration - it was total sand. Awful.

If you want some technology added to your practice, visit Avery Ranch, TeraVista or Falconhead. They have TopTracer technology available free of charge. Download the app, and hit balls.

They've also just added covered hitting bays with the monitors in them: https://www.facebook.com/falconheadgc/videos/toptracer-range/1269040203428970/

Woah, that's awesome... so how does it work? You just download the app and somehow connect to the monitor they have in place?

Yeah you download the app, connect to the wifi on site then when you are ready to hit you put the phone on the ground near your ball and it counts down 3...2...1...hit and you do that 2-3 times with a wedge and then it know where you are and it works really well.

You don't need to keep your phone anywhere in particular after it is all synced up as it's all registered via the cameras.

I've done this with people hitting the spot next to me and it doesn't mistake their balls for mine, it's surprisingly accurate.

you also can use the video camera in the app to get the video with the data:

Grey rock has nice live oak grounds and range facilities. Multiple deschutes beers on tap too

Lots of people flocking this way for it unfortunately. I might have to join just to get a tee time before 2.
