Looks like he'll make the cut. Nice to see him grind it out after being +2 in both rounds early.

What is unfortunate is that even if he "comes back," it is still very tough to win a major. There are so many world class golfers that just never end up getting it done in majors.

Personally, I would be happy to see him come back and win a handful more bigger name tourneys. A major would just be icing on top.

4/14 fairways. He ain't winning any tournament doing that. He's not the bomber anymore to get away with that.

Agree he's got to hit more fairways, but it's pretty obvious he can get it out there. He was putting it 20-30 past Hoffman yesterday at times, and Hoffman is 40th in driving distance. Gotta put it in the fairway, but distance isn't an issue.

Doesn't need to be super accurate with the driver. Just needs to make his misses better. The birdie he made on 9 was a missed fairway, but he put it in the gallery and not in a canyon. He can recover from those.

I wonder if they'll show anyone else today. His tee time is fit to the TV window. No matter who it is I'm not that interested in the T-65s on the weekend.

They'll show every one of his shots today, as they should. They showed plenty of other guys on TV yesterday, and will again today.

Two under today on 3/14 fairways hit. Short game was phenomenal.

T39 -3

7 off the pace, probably 10 after 18th by leaders

A 64 tomorrow could be a surprise winner, but another under par round would do great for his building towards Augusta

My cousin is Tiger's back specialist that performed his surgery. Dr. Richard Guyer.

That was damn impressive to even make the cut. The guy is phenomenal!

Pretty tough tournament. Seemed like everybody was shooting around par, even the guys at the top just had a few rounds close to par and then one round or one stretch of holes where they were really on that put them past everyone. Seemed like Tiger had that chance yesterday from 16-6 to make some birdies and maybe get to -8, but missed some putts and then hit some bad shots at the end.

As a Tiger fan, I'm pretty happy with what I saw.

His short game looked much better than I thought it would, especially given the train wreck it had become just prior to his going down. Old Tiger was the type of player that even on the days he was hitting the ball all over the course, he would find a way to scrape together an E or -1 round that keeps him in it. So from that respect, there were definitely some flashes.

That said, the next question, beyond just can he pull together the issues with his long game that we saw, is how does the back hold up. So he put 4 rounds on it and hops on his plane for a cross-country flight. But he does have 3 weeks before doing it all again.

Agree that his short game looked really great. I think it's a very positive sign. As you mentioned, that grinder's game was always a big part of his success before.

Next question is can he get the other half of it back -- can he go out and shoot 30 or 31 on a side to take control of a tournament. Obviously his ball striking needs to be MUCH better than what we saw this week.

Last time Tiger made back-to-back cuts was the 2015 stretch of Masters, Players, Memorial. Will definitely be watching when he tees it up at Riviera.

Another factor is that was a course that he's had an incredible amount of success on. So I'm curious as to how much of the grinding in spite of the shaky long game was due to how sharp his game was vs. how much was supported by having a great deal of familiarity and comfort with what needs to be done even when he's in trouble. You still have to execute the shots and putts, which he did. But being on a very comfortable, successful old stomping ground sure didn't hurt.

Good point. Don't think he has a lot of history at Riviera, does he? Will be interesting to see how that dimension plays into it.

Kinda crazy to think that 30% of his PGA wins have come from three courses (Torrey, Bay Hill, and Firestone).

Tiger's OWGR is up to 539 from 647.

Climbing the ladder!

I knew he had lifetime exemption to The Masters and The Open but didn't realize the PGA did it as well. Also judging by the special exemptions the USGA has given in the past, Tiger will be able to play the US Open as often as he would like.

This question might be a little more interesting than "will Tiger win another major" or "will Tiger win a tournament"...

Where do you think Tiger will end the year in the OWGR?

Holy hell, scratch that question. Trying to figure that out is like trying to ancient Egyptian algebra. I understand how it works but damn it is so complicated.

if you told me how few fairways he was going to hit I would have said no way Tiger makes the cut. But he grinded his ass off. If we can start hitting the fairways watch out. Almost wondering if he could just find a way to relax his swing a bit and gain some accuracy? Sure you may lose 10-20 yards, but if you're in the fairway, who cares if you have to use an 8 instead of a 9? Beats being off in the woods.

Tiger lost at Torrey by less than 2 strokes a day. Turn one bogey a day into a par and add one birdie, and he wins. So, if he had hit 3 more fairways at day, he probably wins. The most critical part of the game, putting, is his strength again. That portends some wins down the road IMO.

I would like to see Tiger top Sam Sneads record for PGA wins. That is a phenomenal and underrated record IMO.
