The Texas A&M women’s golf team notched a second-place finish in the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational hosted by UTSA that wrapped up on Tuesday. A&M distanced themselves from third place by shooting a -5 on the final day of play, putting them at -11 (853) for the tournament.

Their stellar final round helped solidify a second-place finish behind the Arkansas Razorbacks who took home the championship after finishing the invitational at -16 (848).

The Aggies have finished sixth or better in all three of their fall tournaments so far this season and have had two or more top-ten finishers in each tournament. Freshman Courtney Dow finished third overall with a score of -7 (209), tying the A&M freshman 54-hole record.

“It was a good showing for us,” head coach Trelle McCombs said. “We had some kids step up and shoot good rounds.

“Courtney Dow had a breakout tournament in what was essentially her collegiate debut. She was supposed to play in the Schooner Fall Classic in Oklahoma and was hit in the head with a golf ball in practice rounds and was not cleared to play.”

Three Aggies finished inside the top ten. Dow took home third place. Bianca Fabrizio tied for sixth after shooting -6 (210), and Maddie Szeryk landed in ninth place after finishing at -3 (213) on the tournament. The Aggies have had two or more top-six finishers in each of their three tournaments so far this season.

We had kids step up in every single round, and as a team it allows the girls to know that even though you may not have the best round that your teammates have your back. This team has done that all fall, and that is very encouraging. - Trelle McCombs
“We had kids step up in every single round, and as a team it allows the girls to know that even though you may not have the best round that your teammates have your back,” said McCombs. “This team has done that all fall and that is very encouraging.”

Senior Thanya Pattamakijsakul concluded the tournament with a 37th-place finish after carding a +6 (222). Andrea Jonama finished with a score of +14 (230), ending the tournament in 62nd place.

Callie Scheffler finished the tournament in 65th place after competing as an individual and shooting a +16 (232).

McCombs has been pleased with the overall performance of the team and expects a strong finish from the Aggies in their upcoming tournament, which will round out the fall portion of their schedule.

“The fall is about seeing what you have, finishing strong and looking forward to the spring,” McCombs said. "We are excited to head up to Dallas.”

Texas A&M looks to continue their success at the Trinity Forest Invitational presented by Vic Salvino in Dallas on November 7th.
