BentTree will open the clubhouse in late August/early September. The design is a Spanish/Mediterranean and looks great.

The new Director of Golf is an absolute man. He's a difference maker and has raised the level of service and quality of golf. He will be tough to hold on to.

The course will get some improvements but the focus is obviously the clubhouse. Lastly, it has recovered very well from the freeze in mid-February and really looking good, especially the bentgrass greens (had them up to 12.5 for one of the recent tournaments).

I heard from someone (who is not a member at Bent Tree) that they raised the initiation to $100k now that the clubhouse is about to open. Not sure if that is true. Seems like a big jump (passing Royal Oaks and Lakewood).

Correct. The new initiation is $100K up from $85K which is where Royal Oaks currently is for their initiation fee.

We have a wait list for some levels of membership which is one factor, among many, for the increase.

Here you go. Royal Oaks and Lakewood CC are great options that don't require elite connections to get invited...just plenty of $$.

Lakewood, not happening. 9 year waiting list.

Is Lakewood really 9 years? That would put it longer than DCC, Northwood and Brookhollow. I think even Preston Trail is about 9-10 years. If that's really the case Lakewood needs to double it's initiation fee. It's a great neighborhood club if you live over there, but 9 year as sounds long.

It's crazy what is going on with clubs right now. Sounds like everybody is full with long waiting lists and prices keep just going up.

Yeah, the pandemic has boosted golf like nothing I've ever seen. Not Tiger in the late 90s, nothing.

If you're on a waitlist at DCC you're never getting in. They do a process not a waitlist for anyone with the network required to actually get in.

Also, I've talked to a bunch of Lakewood members lately and they all gave me wildly different estimates of waitlist time which means nobody knows. All I know for sure is it's likely 2+ years before you can join as a social then another tbd amount of years to make golf member with no more junior member program.

I will say I am a member at DCC social no the waitlist is not that long. Yes if you are a big swinging weewee you will get in faster. The waitlist at DCC is overhyped due to the location it's not that long and not that difficult if you live in the park cities. I was told "15 years" bs it took 3.5. I do not play golf that often at DCC but the course is not great. I also play elsewhere in Dallas and my wife doesn't play anymore.

In terms of Lakewood it's my least favorite course in Dallas and least favorite club. Too many members, the range is awful, the course is not in good shape and you can't take carts in the fairway. I have numerous coworkers who are members and unless you live in Lakewood I just don't think it's worth the money. I would join DAC over Lakewood. Same amount of members and two superior courses. Every time I've been at Lakewood it's a 5 hour round. For 85k it's not worth it.

Just talked to a co-worker who is at DAC. He said it's a six month wait list but you can probably get in quicker.

Sorry to muddy up the CC thread with a public dog track question - but I'll be at a wedding at the Dallas Ritz in a couple of weeks and a bunch of us guys (6-8 of us) are trying to play morning of. Problem is we have to be back by lunch for wedding stuff so we need to find a early tee-time at a course that is as close as possible.

Looks like Tenison (Highlands) and Stevens Park are closest options. Which one is better? Any others we should look into?

TIA.

I think both are pretty equidistant from the Ritz. I'd choose Stevens if all else equal.

Stevens is a great Dallas public golf experience. Quirky course with a ton of history.

Tennison is fine but not this uniqueness of Stevens.

Stevens > Tenison. And it's significantly cheaper in the morning.

Yup. Austin is even more insane due to the lack of upper end clubs for people willing to burn cash on initiations. My club is $150k initiations these days and closed to anyone who didn't buy on of the new million plus lots they sold thru earlier this year. It's insanity.

I would recommend you join any other club over Lakewood too. We will somehow struggle through our miserable existence at Lakewood in your absence.

I agree w/ the above. LCC is my least favorite club & course in DFW to visit or play. Many coworkers of mine are members and they complain about a lot of issues about the club.

Course rating in the Vader scale is 3.2/10.0. I'm being harsh because I had a negative experience the past few times. I prefer Royal Oaks for that area just me.

There is zero chance LCC has a 9 year wait. A coworker of mine had the cash and got in on the spot. He told me if you have the cash zero wait if you don't and pay it off there is a wait. That's just someone peacocking.

Royal Oaks is full on golf members right now and just raised the initiation fee.

I never claimed there was a 9 year wait, that was a quote from someone else.

If someone got in immediately they either have incredibly good connections or paid well over the going rate. I heard stories that Brook Hollow used to have a deal where you could skip the wait for an extra $150k, but can't personally verify if that was/is true or not.

If you want an early tee time at Stevens, you need to call at 6:59am the day that the tee sheet opens up.

I'll somehow survive. I'm stating facts Lakewood is not a good course and the conditioning is well below snuff. We could not take carts onto the crab grass fairways…I have a lot of friends at Lakewood many of whom are talking about leaving for various reasons but the reason I get is not worth the money, crowded, or they are moving and want to join some place else.

You seemed to have taken it personally which do not I state my opinion and mine only. I've never spoken highly of Lakewood and think it's way overpriced for what you get. There is better value in DFW. If you live in Lakewood maybe it's worth it but from my perspective not worth it.

I come down in the middle of this one …

I think Lakewood is a good club if you live close by and have a bunch of buddies/families that are also members. It's similar to DCC in that regard in that you join to have a proximate higher end club that has an unremarkable place you can play golf (DCC is of course at a much higher price point/prestige level). But, you don't join it for the golf course, pro shop or the practice facilites (the range, putting green and short game area are all average at best). DAC is definitely a better place to golf in that part of Dallas. Lakewood does have a chunk of good members from east Dallas and is a fun place to hang out in the bar/pool, especially if you live right there. That's what can make a good club for a lot of people… a good time, the club experience for you and your family and go play a private golf course with your buddies somewhere that is less than 15 minutes from your house. Lakewood checks all those boxes.

I think Lakewood is facing challenges as Royal Oaks (even with flooding issues) and Bent Tree are better options at that price point. But, if location is key, then Lakewood is a good club. A ton of guys enjoy it there. And if you're happy at your club, then that's all that matters. But, personally I think it's over priced for what you get.

I think the course is really fun and the clubhouse is great. That said, As mentioned above it's more of a second club or a business club given it's location and golf only focus (similar to Dallas National). That said, they had a good deal going for a while if you were a young junior member that would be awesome if you don't have kids who need amenities.

It's great. Just like others have said, it is a golf club. Not a country club. But, for golf it is great. 15 minutes from downtown. Great practice facilities. Fun course. Not crowded. Really good golfers out there. They claim to have the lowest average handicap of any club in town. It is walking only 9 months of the year. Carts and boards during the heat of the summer.

It got unfairly roasted during the Nelson. Bad venue for the PGA tourney, but nice place to have a golf membership. DNAT is probably a nicer traditional course, but TF is much closer if you work downtown.
