So a buddy of mine who now works for my old high school just asked me for a quote about "what it meant for me to be a golfer at my high school"..

for me golf is just something i always played bc i was always left on the driving range or walking a round with a few friends when growing up while my dad was out playing... Anyway so i just played for my high school team bc i enjoyed golf and liked getting out of school early for practice and tournaments and didnt really think much more about it, but i don't think that is the quote hes looking for..

I'm not 100% sure but the local country club closed a few years ago and with that the golf team has struggled to get the support it needs so i think my buddy is trying to keep the golf program alive.

anybody have any ideas for a quote that would look good if it was put on the schools website or a newspaper somewhere... not sure it will be but i don't think "getting out of class" is good enough

Golf is and hopefully always will be a test of a persons honesty.

I really think it taught a lot of young men and women to be honest to themselves, their peers, and to always be cognizant of their surroundings.

Unless you went to Klein Forest, those kids just wanted to get out of class.

HOnestly the high school golf team didnt mean a tone to me. Not like Football or soccer did. Also, summer individual tournaments had a lot more influence on college recruitment than the high school tournaments did(outside of regional and state)

What I would concentrate on if I was writing that is how golf has had a positive influence on my life, both in college and as an adult, and what it has taught me about myself.

The main thing I learned playing high school golf is that the more likely a player is to argue about the number of strokes you took, the less likely they are to be completely honest about the number of strokes they took.

+1

We had a run of about 6 or 7 years in row of our team making it to the state tournament with my high school years falling right in the middle of that. I had no shot at making the A team. I was, without question, the #5 player on the B team.

My crowning achievement was shooting 114 at district, while a guy from another school with a broken arm, who literally swung with only his one good arm, shot a 112... I've obviously gotten better since high school...

Played to get out of school more. And to spend time on the tee box with girls in short golf shorts from other school.( most of our tourneys before district were mixed, which sucked bc the girls would slow the coarse down.)

We always own district and would stink it up in regionals. Probably bc most of our team were baseball players and we never practiced. Best time was first day of regionals, a kid who had made state the year before was in my group. He took FOREVER between every shot. It pissed me off... So I got in his head and he shot the worst round of his life.... Like an 79 or something.... Which was still better than my 82.... Anyway, he was heart broken. He came back the next day and shot a 70, and I believe still made it to state. I almost had the dude crying the first day..... Good times...
