" Yormark said the league introduced an updated vision statement "built around being the most relevant and nationally recognized conference in America."

" It's also familiar terrain to Yormark a former vice president of corporate marketing for NASCAR, chief of business operations for the Brooklyn Nets and CEO of Roc Nation and a big reason why he got the commissioner job in 2022.

"When I think about my background, I certainly believe that collegiate athletics is shifting more closely to where I came from than where we are today," he said. "We as a conference can get better. We gotta continue to be more progressive, think outside the box and thrive in this new chapter."

One area that would be new to college sports is private equity involvement, which has garnered some more attention (and trepidation) within the industry in the wake of the House settlement announcement. Yormark didn't outline any specific plans regarding private equity on Friday, but he didn't denounce or hide from it, either.

"In some respects, (interest from) private equity is a validation of where this industry is going and the growth trajectory," he said. "So I don't look at it as a bad thing."

Good to have a commissioner with a national vision that can encompass the majestic swaths of geography the Big 12 represents!
From the verdant Appalachian highlands and Mid-Atlantic to the rich Ohio River Valley down to Florida and transiting the Gulf to H-town, heading up the Brazos Valley and Great Plains, then coursing west, ascending the Front Range of the towering Rocky Mountains and red rock country and heading to the western Wasatch Mountains, then south into the majestic Sonoran Desert, almost touching the Pacific!

Has any conference ever boasted such a majestic geography or diversity of humanity? We are (or soon to be) the Big 12!

from cincinnati to disney world to city college in h-town. acres of parking lots and many many airports. the fervent fans will be using up mileage, playing across all the time zones... their poor kiddos can't even play sports on the weekends. college kids missing their classes. flunking out. sad. a real hamster wheel
and then there's the football

I can't tell you of the pride and excitement I feel being part of THE TWELVE!

It's a new world, folks. And Yormark is a New World Man. He's not concerned with yesterday and knows constant change is here today.

Stay tuned…

....the football

15 stepping-stone schools, flung to and fro, young men hoping to transfer into better places, higher paying jobs, and somehow avoid the shoddy strength and conditioning deficiencies so common at the new big 12 level which leads to career ending injuries and stained seasons....yet they play hard because they want to get the hell out of the minors, but sadly, many of them aren't that good. and the football suffers.

You obviously have not heard about the UUpgrade.

Yormark is also noble enough to know what's right
But weak enough not to choose it. He's wise enough to win the world but fool enough to lose it.

Remember when castrated bovine fans made fun of Aggies for heading to the red neck "stupid" conference? So good to see Oklahoma and Austin trash follow A&M to our lower brow conference!

It will be interesting to see how Matthew Golden does with the Longhorns after they signed him off the UHpgrade practice squad.

Most SEC college towns are looking up "airport" in the dictionary. Football teams sharing greyhound buses with "immigrants" headed to New York isn't exactly conducive to studying

I guess the SEC advantage is that the landscape is so….similar: hot, humid and flat. With campuses in near enough proximity you could drive it in a few hours AND stop off at Waffle House for a gourmet lunch/breakfast.

Yep, taking the bus to the airport to get on their charter.
Funny you mention buses. I remember the year Ware won the Heisman, we agreed to delay the kickoff because one of the uhhh team buses broke down. That just prolonged the whopping he got.

Impossible. I was assured by Aggies there was an ironclad gentleman's agreement and that A&M would never let Texas in the SEC.

Heck, you're already in it with UVW as a member. The other version (the ACC) didn't want you then and don't want you now. Not sure what a "Confernc" is though.

Which is exactly why the UUpgrade is happening at the right time. A toxic wealthy member(s) leaves to move into another wealthy relative's neighborhood and the neighborhood association goes shopping for great new people to move in. The Big 12 loses 1 (one) AAU member and gains 4 (four) AAU members and major research universities. Part of the plan is to undoubtedly assist the non-AAU research institutions to UUpgrade to AAU status.

Obviously, Baylol and TCU do not have the desired level of research, but Texas Tech, Iowa State and Oklahoma State do have such potential.

Let's not kid ourselves, this is happening for money, pure and simple. The music was ending and everybody was diving for a chair to not get left out. I guess $18M for the new members is better than nothing, the leftovers get a paltry $38-39M each, which way below what the major conferences get. Based on dollars, is it really an upgrade?

I have been surveying interest in the Big 12 among fellow vacationers here in the Yucatn and the Riviera Maya while relaxing and I think I can safely say interest is not insignificant. Perhaps I will do another survey along the Mexican Pacific coast in the fall.

Spent two nights in Paamul a couple of years ago, but we had to leave when locals found out about our big 12 affiliation. Luckily my wife is originally from AR. has SEC cred. saved me from being pushed into a sinkhole by riled up german-mexicans,
