Flew this one in 2002 over Afghanistan.
Potentially dumb sounding question. Do you know when the plane was built? I always find it interesting that the B52 is projected to still be in service in 2050 making the design probably the only one to last for 100 years.fessparker said:

When my wife and I were in Newport, all but one of those "cottages" on the shore were totally abandoned and closed up. Five years ago, my daughter took my wife on a New England sight-seeing trip and they were all open, fixed up, decorated, furnished and beautiful. Somebody came up with a hell of a lot of money.Jock 07 said:
ha, I was just at Newport last week. Prime real estate for a naval base.
Yes, most of the B-52's were built in the 50's, however the only models flying today are H models and were contracted in 1960 and 1961. They came off the production line in 62 or 63. I am sure there are internet sleuth's around who could tell you the date of the first flight of this one, 61-019 ("ten-nineteen"). When I retired in 2005, I was one of the last crew members who was older than the youngest of the Buff's. One thing that has kept the Buff young is that they sat on Nuc Alert for decades and did not fly much. The airframe is aging but is not nearly as "old" as a 20 year old airliner.Madman said:Potentially dumb sounding question. Do you know when the plane was built? But does that mean most of the airplanes were built in the 50s?

As long as we have the sheep dogs to defend the sheep, this will always be the result. However, when we do run out of sheepdogs, and it looks like the sheep flock is growing on an exponential rate, to protect them, then they will finally come to terms as to why they are sheep.LonghornDub said:
- Thanks to all of you both for serving and for posting here. As I've become ancient, my time in the military has become more important to me, and I've always felt a certain kinship with those who had at least done their time honorably. There was a contingent of my generation who fled to Canada rather than serving. I still despise them along with the leaders of the anti-war group like Ramsey Clark and Jane Fonda. I firmly believe that our country as we know it will last only as long as we produce a populace willing to defend it.
You're still a youngster - I've been retired longer than that. Served in the USAF 20 years.West Point Aggie said:
22 years...where the heck did that time go!?!
You remind me of Calveras' line in The Magnificent Seven, "If God didin't intend them to be sheared, why did he make them sheep?"APHIS AG said:As long as we have the sheep dogs to defend the sheep, this will always be the result. It's hard to tell the difference between war (I and ll), a police action (Korea), and a live fire exercise and/or a peacekeeping mission when people are shooting at you.fistofsouth said:
