I have never seen a head coach so ready to throw his assistants under the bus. I'm sure these comments do wonders for the atmosphere in his locker room.

quote:
"We just know defensively we have our issues. Each coach will be evaluated and we'll see where we go from here. We've got to look at where we are and improve our performance."

Strong went even further and said he will be "more involved" with the defense and did not rule out the possibility of making the calls himself instead of defensive coordinator Vance Bedford. Strong, who switched offensive play-callers after last year's opening loss to Notre Dame, has a long history as a defensive coordinator and made it clear he was not pleased by watching Bedford's unit allow 11 big plays to California, nine via the pass and two on running plays.

You approved that game plan, bucko. BTW - assistant's contracts are year to year, so good job of fostering an atmosphere that'll run off whatever good ones you have.

One loss and this thing is about to derail. October should be fun.

When charlie visits high school coaches, he asks them what offensive play gives their defense the most trouble. After the HS coach replies, charlie then diagrams a brilliant, creative solution to whatever problem is brought up. HS coaches are grateful for this unique insight.

Anybody remember this narrative his first year?

Perhaps he should ask bedford this question and supply brilliant, creative answers for his own defense.

And every year, it's the same old "We need to (fill in the blank)" But it never happens. We're Texas. Lol.

Work 27 hour days and yell all of the time. The occasional assault of a player not doing as they're told is also needed.

Charlie postgame after Cal in 2015:

quote:
On his level of concern with the defense:
"My level, it's a major concern right now; because you look at us defensively, it's been three straight games where we have not played very good on defense. What we've not been able to do is make a team one-dimensional. We allow them to it's balanced run and pass, which you can't do because now you can't play good defense; and then we're not getting pressure on the quarterback, and he can stand back there and pick us apart. Knowing that we're young in the secondary, we're playing a lot of guys, but still, though, we just have to we're going to have to play much better, and it probably can be fixed, just guys need to stand up and start playing better".

Yep. Charlie's hand never wanders far from he self-destruct button. And the other hand is usually trying to cop a feel from married white women.

If I were a sip fan, these comments would concern me greater than any other issue that's arisen this season. Throwing your assistants under the bus is a sinking ship maneuver.

Why? Those guys are working 18 hour days already. WTF does work harder mean when you're working 18 hour days? And the one thing every good football team has going for it is the "us against them" mentality - we're a band of brothers who will fight through adversity together. Charlie just took a big **** on that.

So he is either (1) covering his ass or (2) flat out clueless or (3) who the **** knows. He owns that defensive staff and his masters at t.u. know that. As was mentioned above, one good shot in the mouth (that's you I'm looking at, OU) and the **** will come loose. It'll be glorious.

As I posted 4-5 weeks ago - Charlie does not get along with his assistants and there was a good chance that one or more would be gone before the season even started. They have been observed screaming at each other down the halls of Belmont.

There is a huge fire over there and I expect Charlie to be fired before the season ends.

An inferior team in an inferior conference with bad coaching. Loving every minute of it. They're back!!

Still young. This is year 3. If he doesn't have juniors and seniors who can contribute, that's a coaching issue.

Guys, guys, guys....we have a problem here. The wheels are coming off too early in the season. We need Charlie to fire Bedford and hopefully that sacrificial lamb will appease/distract the fans for a while. If Charlie craps the bed against OU in a few weeks (highly likely), I'm afraid the sips will wise up and Chuckles will be gone before December. We've got to start rooting for him in a few games. He's got to win at least 7 or the sips will run his ass out of town which is bad for us.

C'mon Charlie! This Ag is rooting for YOU! Let the ****show continue!

all they gotta do is beat kansas, kansas state, iowa state, texas tech and west virginia to get to the promised land of 7 wins and another year of ole chollie. hopefully they can beat ou just to solidify his standing and give us another hilarious celebration hoist!

Charlie Strong has taught tu fans what it's like to enjoy a win again. By dragging the fanbase through excruciating loss-laden seasons year after year, they are forced to meet the rare win with jubilation. A win over a ranked opponent automatically gets the championship celebration treatment with a patented midget tossing!

I'd like to make a request for cuppycup, if you're reading this, can we get Charlie and Co on this gif?

We know how proud the sip media is seeing their boys in suits and ties and how much the team enjoys tossing Ole Chollie around!

If they are only going beat Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and tech, shouldn't that be, "a win over a rank opponent?"

With the Big XII falling far down in the polls, they don't have many opportunities to face a ranked opponent for the rest of the season. The Big XII round robin will resemble a cripple fight this year. I predict many games with ridiculous combined scores of over 80 points.

I was being generous in giving the sips the benefit of the doubt with tech. There are teams that the horns can just out muscle because of the talent they have.

Tech can't stop anybody. Sips can't stop anybody. That game will probably come down to who gets the last possession. (Unless Charlie's punts it away again.)

Holy ***** I mean, we've all seen the individual pics/gifts of Charlie getting tossed around by his players, but when put all together like that it really drives home what the horns have become....a crappy, second-tier team who genuinely doesn't expect to win the big game and honestly gets so excited when they do that they can't control themselves.

They're like the underdog team in cheesy sports movies, the one that's made of rejects and nerds and a coach who can't get hired anywhere else, and when they finally win a game in the big finale they go ape*****

What those pics/gifts DON'T depict is a legendary, "blue-blood" team who history of winning has taught them how to "act like you've been there before".

I think he actually meant play more people, like 13 or 14, on defense. Belmont is furiously lobbying the Big12 officials for a special exception this year.

The sip OL struggled badly at pass protection last Saturday.

Against the Cal Bears.

In particular, sip offensive left tackle Connor Williams got beaten, embarassed, & abused numerous times in pass protection by Cal defenders.

Cal currently ranks #118 in the nation in defense.
