Jon Lovitz.

That is Jon Lovitz as Tommy Flanagan, pathological liar. In his caricature of Tommy Flanagan, Lovitz had a catch phrase when he tells his far fetched stories...."Yeah, That's the ticket!" That quote, that is the window into the inner workings of Charlie Strong's brain.

Do you think his 5 core values, that he knows he copied from dozens of other coaches, do you think he really thought that would be the legacy that defines his first 20 months plus on the job at Texas? Because it certainly didn't define him at Louisville. Successful coaches don't change what they do, the are repetitive. See Nick Saban and his process. See Urban Meyer and his process. See Bert Bielema and his process of banging his head against a wall in Arkansas, losing something like 16 straight conference games, and now he is moving forward. People that change their process lose their way, see Fran and his 2005-2007 option offense with Reggie McNeal and Stephen McGee. Stupid.

So do you really think Charlie had an idea in his mind, Michael Crabtree style, that he was going to make himself out to be a behavior saint when he took the job in Austin, and promote it in front of the media? Or is he channeling his inner Jon Lovitz. Did he pay it lip service last year, until he figured out it might buy him some political capital? Perhaps when the Board of Regents endorsed his policy right before Baylor ripped his ass. Or maybe it was Kay Bailey Hutchison feeling up the alums for money based upon Charlie's rigid behavior policies that were finally raising their boys right?

There is another event that took place, and Charlie's reaction to it that convinces me that he is channeling his inner Jon Lovitz. The Helmet decals in 2014. There really isn't a college in America that has helmet decals on their lids in August camp. I'm sure there is, but the vast majority don't. When Texas showed up in 2014 without helmet decals, someone asked Charlie if he was making them earn their horn logos. He responded with an inquisitive look. Huh? But he didn't respond one way or another to a question that made no sense to him. But then the team kind of latched onto it with the help of their internet army. After it became, "A Thing" Charlie latched onto it in true, "That's the ticket" style of Jon Lovitz.

The two situations can not be more similar. The media makes a couple of afterthought things into positives for Charlie, and all of a sudden, these become actual plans and policies that Charlie had long ago, things he designed to be actually focused on by the media. I didn't buy it then, and I'm not buying it now.

Dale Hansen didn't buy it last night, and hit up the masses with a truth bomb that he thinks Charlie won't live up to the core value hype. Because Dale knows, like all of us, that Charlie will eventually pray to the altar of winning, like every coach does. And when your coach goes out of his way to discuss things, it is fake and contrived. Charlie couldn't not talk about it, there was too much for him to gain. Him and Ketch are perfect for each other. Mouth breathing nincompoops who happened to be in the right place at the right time. Ketch with the internet and rivals, Charlie with Louisville and Clint Hurtt/Teddy Bridgewater.

Next thing is Charlie playing 15 true freshmen in a loss to Cal. "Charlie, are you showing recruits how much playing time there is available at Texas?"

"Yeah, That's the ticket!"

Charlie Strong is literally making it up as he goes along as the head coach at Texas.

Is it spin to point out that Charlie let a convicted sexual assault predator stay on the team at Louisville, right after his plea deal? Turns out he was a pretty good player. Notify me when an actual stud at Texas gets booted for breaking a core value. Daje is still on the team, right? Spin? Please.

My facebook feed is littered with hornfans ticked off at old Dale for not praying at the feet of St. Charlie the Strong.

The bottom line for all the sip goalies when it comes to Strong...if other schools are making fun of for coach and you feel the need to defend him -- then things are bad, really bad.

You think tOSU fans get upset at Mich fans that poke fun at Meyer or Bama fans when Auburn fans make fun of Saban? No, because they are secure in the knowledge they have the right coach.

Deep down the sips know Strong is not the right guy. Hell Louisville upgraded with Petrino. But, defend that **** out of him. It just makes us laugh...just like we laugh when sips take shots at Sumlin. Why? Because we know we have the right guy.

He doesn't have a high enough IQ to go on the record with anything. This is a man who thinks withholding helmet stickers in camp is a revolutionary concept. The media allows him to talk about stickers, core values, and proper treatment of women without pointing out that these things are fundamental.

His lack of intelligence is his saving grace. He's being boueyed by the soft bigotry of low expectation.

To be fair, he's the only coach I've ever seen cordon off the longhorn logo on the floor of the locker room so players couldn't walk on it until they'd earned the right.

Having said that, I've also never seen that crap-ass logo in anyone else's locker room, so pretty small sample size.

Not the devil, just not very bright. Remember all those jobs that he interviewed for and didn't get the job? The jobs where the African American Sportswriters took each and every school to task for treating Charlie like the token Rooney Rule interviewee? Those schools obviously felt the same way. Turns out listening to Charlie simply attempt to communicate is a job in and of itself. Perhaps those school Presidents didn't want him on their Robert Gates proverbial "front porch". Were they wrong about Charlie? Has Charlie raised a ton of cash for Texas through his ability to connect with alumni? What about Urban Meyer who told everyone who would listen that Greg Mattison was the straw that stirred the drink at Florida, not Charlie Strong? Is he wrong about Charlie? What about the current staff at Louisville and its support media? They are on the record saying that Charlie's last couple classes at Louisville, not so coincidentally the ones that weren't recruited by NCAA offender Clint Hurtt, were abject failures. Are they wrong too?

Bonfire is closer to reality than most of you sips care to admit. I've worked with plenty of clueless hucksters. But all of them were better spoken. Good enough speakers that they could literally change their talking points in mid sentence depending on a crowds reaction. Then they would try to act like they always knew what the answer was.

Yeah, Charlie wishes he was that good. He bumbles his way through this job and you know the real spin masters are having a difficult time keeping up. Meanwhile guys like Red and Jamail are not happy.

The op asserts that Strong is a pathological liar and others support that notion by calling him a con man. I remind you of this because there were a few posts that changed the standard after I posted.
The op, ironically, engages in a distortion of the facts to support his claim that Strong is a liar. It's easy to see through that spinning approach.
I decided to refer to Strong's reputation among coaches, journalists, players and the public that he is not what the op claims.
Being Aggies, you can't conceive of a Longhorn that isn't wicked. That is a core belief that gives Aggies their own identity as righteous and manly. It's a belief as unfounded as the notion that Strong is a lying con man.

If you think the original post was meant to call Charlie a flat out pathological liar, I am astonished at your level of intellect. I used the character of Jon Lovitz's catch phrase as the basis for my post. When Tommy Flanagan gets questioned as to why he does things a certain way, if it fits his motivations, he utilizes said catch phrase, "That's the ticket!"

The point of my post is that no where in Charlie's past is it found where he utilized his core values as the bell cow of his football program. The thing that he lead with in his drive to win. In fact, it is very evident that his core values are more guidelines than anything else for his front line starters....like every other program in America. But then the media, the Texas BoR, and Kay Bailey's Texas Exes latched onto it as the face of Charlie Strong. He willingly followed suit. How do I know he willingly followed suit? It is painfully obvious. If his core values were going to be the theme of his coaching tenure, it would have shown itself before August Camp 2014. But it didn't.

Regarding the helmet decals, Charlie denied that he was making his players earn it. He was befuddled at such a question. But then Vance Bedford latched onto it, along with your internet army. It sounded good, and Charlie then latched onto it.

The dude couldn't be more, "That's the ticket" if he tried. All of that is evidence of making it up as he goes along. And that is OK, because after all, this is only his second head coaching job. His first job, he didn't have to do much with Clint Hurtt delivering a Heisman Candidate Quarterback in Strong's first offseason as coach. The wins came naturally after that, especially in the Big East/American Athletic Conference. But Clint Hurtt isn't here now. Strong has to come up with stuff on his own because Teddy Bridgewater isn't walking in the door anytime soon. And it is patently obvious that Charlie doesn't know what to do. You want to call that spin? Fine, but Charlie is staring his fourth .500 season in the face out of six total years. You claim that he is universally respected as a head coach, I suggest you revisit this claim after this season when Teddy Bridgewater's results in Louisville become the exception, and not the norm.

I feel bad for you. Reality hurts. We know, we lived through Fran who rode LT to an Alabama job where he got to use the NCAA Boogeyman as a rallying cry on an elite level team that was recruited with straight cash. We had no idea that he was a dumbass coach until he had no answers for us. This is your moment, and you are taking the bait.

That, um, doesn't answer the question. Why did Strong issue a statement the other day about the type of players he'd never let play for him when he very recently had a player just like that play for him despite committing the offense while on his team?

All the other made up bull**** you posted where you claim to know what others' state of mind is, what their core belief systems are based around, etc. is nothing more than evidence of your own self-inflated image.

You don't disapppoint when asked to spin. On follow up, nobody could find coaches to back up what that "reporter" wrote about Strong in San Angelo.

In answer to the spin about the Louisville player, I will point to the starters he kicked off the team or suspended for the season (then kicked off the team) for far lesser offenses. Both starting offensive tackles. You think Texas could have used a little help on the OL?

I don't understand how anyone could objectively watch Charlie Strong speak in public and in interviews, along with witnessing the recruiting nightmare (Florida 1, Lampkin, and not getting a serviceable QB in 2 recruiting classea) and still believe he was the guy who was going to bring Texas back.

Why come here and defend him so staunchly? Surely you can see he's never going to get Texas back to national prominence, right?

In answer to the spin about the Louisville player, I will point to the starters he kicked off the team or suspended for the season (then kicked off the team) for far lesser offenses.

Is that the new rally cry? You think Art Briles could use that logic to defend himself to the parents of the Baylor soccer player......

"I know old what's his name, yeah, Sam, had a little but of an anger issue that night but did you see me discipline the cat skinner and the drug dealer........No warm-ups for them against Buffalo. That'll teach 'em.

Selective use of morals is no morals at all.

You could watch one coin toss and come to the same conclusion.

There ya go, Esquire. Bloviate some spin for us.

You deny asserting Strong is a pathological liar? Read your title then read your first paragraph.

You need not feel bad for me when it comes to denying reality. You can't even own what you wrote yourself.
Why don't you try to point it out? It's becoming clearer and clearer that you just aren't a smart man. Read it until you find where he called Strong a pathological liar, then post it.
You're a loyal girlfriend.
