I measure rivalries in TV ratings. Ou-tu typically doesn't crack top 10 in regular season.

LOL @ 55! That article is two years old. Let's see what has happened since then. Ohhhh! The Landthieves have pounded horns by about 1000 points in the last two Red River Blowouts. The Big 12 shrank to 8 teams. LHN subscriptions grew into the tens. There is that little thing with the Texas Aggies being invited to the SEC, beating #1 Bama, winning the Heisman, and humiliating that same Landthieves team in the Big12's premier bowl game. And after all that, there is the new RRS mantra "our worst teams are better than their worst teams". Don't worry though 55, now that half of Stoops team has quit, the Horns might earn a respectable loss in the RRS.

The OU-t.u. game has decreased in importance and gone from being a nationally important game to being a regional game for several years now.

That decline parallels the decline of the Big12 conference which has slid from 2nd to 5th place in the college football pecking order:

5. Big12

Recruits who choose to play in the B12 need to be aware they will be playing at a much lower level of competition, and the Big12 is going to decline even further in the next 5 years.

Went to OU ut baseball and bball games....****ing venues were empty.

A&M rolled in and disch was packed...thought it was interesting.

And there isn't really hatred toward OU...hell, ut fans were pulling like hell for them over A&M.

Wasn't even a top 15 game last year. Meanwhile, the bama/TAMU game was the #4 watched game and yet it wasnt even primetime.

I am willing to bet this years game will have a higher rating than any RRR or RRSO or whatever the hell yall call the annual beatdown, ever.

If OU were in fact the sips biggest rival, Mack would have been fired long ago. The results of the State Fair game, by historical records, prove it. Mack Brown has the worst records in that game, and it isn't close. 3 of the 4 worst losses by either team belong to Mack.

PROVE ME WRONG

In some ways the OU-Texas rivalry stands out.

It is the single biggest brand they have: "We are better than them. We care less for them than we do anything else." They seem to be saying to the world; "Literally nothing else matters to us just so you know, we don't, really really dont, care about the other guy...really."

That's their brand. And it is hilarious that they don't see the incongruities of their brand and the true disposition. Maybe that's why their brand doesn't work - it isn't backed by anything approaching reality.

The past couple of years have proven that we were indeed tu's biggest and most hated rival. It's folly to even suggest otherwise.
