Frankie T and CenTx - I think Fish Camp is strictly for actual students of A&M. I'm not sure T-shirts are allowed to go.

Why do you even HAVE a "fish camp"?

Is being an Aggie that difficult that it can't be picked up with a few days of observation on campus?

Are there code words and secret handshakes, a blood initiation or what?

whatever the reason is, apparently you all thought it important enough to create your own ripoff version.

So you think it was an Aggie idea to get freshmen students together prior to their first year of college?

I simply asked if "T-sip" was covered during Fish Camp since an earlier poster stated the the OP should understand basic Aggie traditions. Still waiting for an answer to that question.

BigTK, "teasip" (not T-sip as you call it), was a term coined during WWII when people noticed the significant discrepancy in the number of Aggies fighting for their country overseas and the number of Longhorns fighting for their country overseas. People made the joke that Longhorns stayed home and "sipped tea" instead. Thus, you have the term "teasip"

Any more questions?

"teasip" ...was a term coined during WWII "

BZZZZ - wrong!!! And not even close.

It has been around since the early 1900s and was used to differentiate between Texas churning out doctors, lawyers, poets, teachers - the more genteel sit-on-the-porch-and-sip-tea occupations and Texas A&M production of farmers, ranchers, ehgineers and military officers.
If you like I can tell you what the 'A' and 'M' stood for?

Note the handles on Urban Dictionary. Are you saying "Aggie09" and "Red Ass Aggie" got it wrong?

Are you seriously disputing a fact because of what someone put on Urban Dictionary?

Dude, anyone can put anything they want on UD.

Are you just mad that your students were ******* during WWII?

Here's a suggestion - ask an older Aggie.

It had absolutely nothing to do with WWII, service to the country, charging a machinegun nest wearing your maroon undies, stories about wrapping yourself heroically in the flag because of a massive inferiority complex or anything remotely like your claim. The term was common well before WWII and there are plenty of folks still around that can explain it to you.

And no one has said 'no' to my Fish Camp offer so I am assuming we are good to go on that. Is there a classroom or auditorium I could use that is available in August?

So you truly believe that the concept of a freshman orientation did not exist until aTm thought it up?

You really, really think that?

If either explanation is true, WWII or intellectuals versus laborers, it's pathetic that the term is still used today as an insult.

If you can't understand that, then that is sad.

Every school has an orientation. Not many have camps.

Here is my answer to why you are called a teasip:

Texas Aggies are the true, manly, hardworking men who get sh*t accomplished, while the Austin intelligentsia sip tea with their pinky fingers extended and b*tch about the world's problems!

Actually, plenty of colleges offer freshmen camps. I guess they all copied the idea from A&M.

I just want to know if they teach you the term "teasips" at Fish Camp since SeeWhyPea says it's a basic aggie tradition.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Damn, I hate to agree with a 'sip on anything. But "teasip" was around long before WWII. No one in my generation of Ags ever heard of the WWII "sips stayed home" urban legend.

Heck, there was even a 'sip on the Doolittle Raid with the 6 or 7 Ags who went (out of 80) Of course he was outranked by the Aggie XO of the mission.

Sips were still patriotic in WWI and WWII. It was really the baby boomers that sent it so far left. And, sad to say, t.u. is still considered "moderate" by the standards of the east coast and Cali-f'ed up-fornia.

Buford had the true meaning correct when he said
quote:
Texas Aggies are the true, manly, hardworking men who get sh*t accomplished, while the Austin intelligentsia sip tea with their pinky fingers extended and b*tch about the world's problems!
