On a serious note, what's with the heavy-ass LB's Tech is taking. This kid Dees and Hocutt aren't very tall but are pretty heavy. Where do you see them ending up?

I love it how these guys keep referring to Willis at Bama as if he built their LB corps. Guy was there for one year.

Willis has XFL experience, too.

Look out everyone...DeRuyter's gonna shut this conference down.

With a history like Ohio and Air Force and a 10th defensive ranking with an SOS of 79....looks like the guy is ready to kick ass and take names.

just makin sure the Rivalries playing field is level....since Brown won't amount to a pile of feces coming over from Troy with their sorry talent.

figured it would only make sense to point out DeRuyters impressive resume against all world competition.

It just so happens that Air Force and Texas Tech and AFA played 2 common opponents in 2009. Lets take a look:

New Mexico:

AF gave up 13 points and 290 total yards of offense.

Tech gave 28 and 431 total yards of offense.

Houston:

AF gave up 20 points and 331 total yards of offense.

Tech gave up 29 points and 579 total yards of offense.

Tech gave up more yards and points than each of the teams averaged for 2009.

AFA held each of them below both averages.

In other words, Deruyter depants'ed Ruffin "I do more than Venables, Muschamp, and Pelini with less than New Hampshire State, Eastern Idaho, and Central Missouri" McNeal in BOTH instances.

DeRuyters defense faced the #1 offense in the country and held them to virtually half their typical offensive output.

Hey Sam, where in that jello mold of a brain did you decipher that this was a DeRuyter vs Ruffin discussion?

I don't recall Ruffin even entering the equation.

It's more about DeRuyter's resume versus Willis and the DeRuyter argument over Brown (coordinators coming from semi irrelevant schools, Brown moreso than DeRuyter).

Silly dumbass Sam.

DeRuyter also had a month to prepare for Houston.

Whereas Tech was just coming off a game at UT.

Kthxbye.

FYI, Ruffin ain't at Tech anymore.

Defense is about 25% coaching and 75% athletes. Tech has no chance here.

You're such a blimping clown. I think it should play in Tech's favor being that according to you, Tech has been owning the recruiting trail. Tech athletes >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Air Force athletes, at least according to the chest thumping you've been doing on this board for several years. How does Sam's logic not apply that DeRuyter is a good coach?

Now. The referenced SOS took place in year 2009. In 2009 Tim DeRuyter was the DC at AFA. In 2009 Dr.K was a Texas Tech Football fan.

Considering the humor that Dr.K found in the 2009 SOS ranking, i decided to see what (if any) common opponents AFA and Texas Tech might have faced in 2009. It just so happened there were 2 opponents that the two schools both faced in 2009.

If you scroll up you'll see this post where i outlined the results of those head to head games:

Actually, as someone who is logically inclined, his logic is perfectly fine. It was made perfectly fine by your post making fun of DeRuyter's accomplishment in light of the SOS.

Common opponents mean squat.....

Lets look at the offensive proficiency of Air Forces opponents...

Nicholls State - 89
Minnesota - 100
New Mexico - 108
San Diego State - 95
Navy - 52
TCU - 8
Wyoming - 96
Utah - 48
Colorado State - 90
Army - 117
UNLV - 89
BYU - 20
Houston - 1

Not exactly a defensive coordinators worst nightmare.....average offensive rank is 70th.

DeRuyter probably has more capabilities than Ruffin. Not sure anyone disagrees here....but, I'd tap the brakes on DeRuyter being the next big thing.
