95% of people curse when they're on the golf course with their buddies. But something tells me your language is different if you're playing with your kid, or your dad, or even if you're with complete strangers. It's simply a matter of showing restraint, which Tiger has none of, and it's getting old. The lack of restraint shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, though, based on the level of nastiness he's subjected his ***** to in the last 2 years.

He's fun to watch when he's playing well, though.

I bet Tiger would have been a hell of a cricket player. Asian roots, great swing and an excellent ball striker.

what does asian roots have to do with cricket?

How do you not get it? I don't like the way that f'er acts or conducts himself on or off of a golf course. I don't like the double life he leads. I don't like how pompos he acts when he is sending lovey dovey texts to skanks starring in "Anal Adventures 27" telling them how much he misses them. I don't like how he acts like a dipsh-t when he hits a bad shot. How are you not comprehending that?

I can understand why you like him....it's because he is good at golf. My favorite basketball player is Tim Duncan - he is the best power forward to ever play the game. I like plenty of people who are the best at what they do.....I like LeBron James, I like Drew Brees, etc. Tiger sure as sh-t isn't one of them.

I agree with the sip. I'll be playing in a golf tourney this weekend and I'll also be cussing. However, there will be no cameras on me, nobody will be watching me, and kids don't look up to me as a role model.

Its funny. David Puddy curses, whines, and loses his cool more than just about anyone else on this board... but he doesn't like how Tiger conducts himself on the golf course.

I don't get any of this, you judge him for everything but his golf. I could care less if he banging 20 hoes at a time, I simply appreciate the greatness of his golf game. I guess I am not a perfect person and have been prone to make mistakes, heck I have even cussed in front of my children before, it happens. On the golf course he is focused on golf and so he cusses after a shot, big deal I have been known to do that before. His personally life issues don't affect me at all, it has nothing to do with me. I don't buy products or services because of Tiger so it's not as if I am supporting his behavior.

To each their own...

Is this what comes down to is Tiger as a role model, seriously? Whoever put athletes up on some pedestal as God's gift as a role model is putting their emphasis on role models in the wrong direction.

Again, it’s hilarious to me as to what you don’t get. So I have to like every person who is good at something? That makes absolutely 0 sense. Like I told you in my post earlier, there are plenty of athletes who are at the top in their respective sports that I like. Tiger isn’t one of them, and that bothers you for some reason. It's like I have to have 20 specific reasons before you understand. I could not like him because I don't like his golf clubs....I really don't need a reason (but I have plenty). I’ve never ever questioned the guy’s golfing ability...that would be stupid. Hell Barry Bonds was really good at baseball….never liked him either. Does that also bother you?

missy - Do you curse when you walk into the church? Your kids' school?

Do you really not get that some places people talk a certain way than other places? Do we need to draw a map with stick figures on it to help?

You're not comprehending, I don't care if you like him or not it's your reasoning, because he cusses and screws around on his wife. Did you like Michael Jordan?

sounds like missy's role models just have to be good at their craft, and however they behave (character) makes no difference to his role models.

i'm just the opposite, and want my kids to find role models based on character first, their trade 2nd.

if we only choose to support those athletes who lead squeeky clean lives, we might have a hard time finding a bandwagon to jump on.

This isn't about me or what I don't do any of what you said above nor have I cheated on my wife, doesn't mean I can't like a way plays golf. That's all I am saying in the end that's all that matters. Were you a fan of the Cowboys football teams in the 90's when they were winning Super Bowls? I mean those teams had players that were screwing around on their wives and doing drugs, did that bother you? Or did you routinely root for them as they won Super Bowls? Am I to assume that because you were fans of those teams you were doing drugs, getting arrested, and screwing around on your wives and girlfriends?

You're still not getting that I dislike him for more reasons than cussing and screwing around on his wife. It seems to me that you care why I don't like him, otherwise you'd quit prodding about it.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttt? That's what I said? I said that an athlete is not a role model at all, teachers, parents, ministers, etc. are role models not athletes. As long as you teach your children that athletes are here for enterntainment and not to be looked up to, they will be able to differentiate much like I did/do as a kid and now as an adult.

You're insane to think that kids involved in sports aren't looking up to guys like Tiger, LeBron, Kobe, Brees, etc as role models.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Tiger Woods is getting what he gets paid for...exposre. The guy gets paid 100s of millions of dollars cause people like watching him and hearing about him - whether it is because of his golf or because of his personal life.

If he doesn't like it - he can try to limit his exposure (and lose money going forward) but that will take a lot of time. He could also quit doing things that are newsworthy like banging porn stars, cussing like a sailor on tv, or whining during an interview. Sorry Tiger - but the billion you have already been paid is your payment for your "troubles".

I wish our society didn't elevate these people so high - and didn't make too much out of something he said or does - but that isn't likely to change. Unfortunately, that means people are going to want to watch Tiger cuss vs. watching Tom Watson or Fred Couples during a round.
TREX01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
As long as these athletes continue to get their faces plastered on everything under the sun and make a huge amount of money for it, they will be a role model in some form or fashion. Kids look up to these people because they enjoy playing that certain sport and player X is the best at it.
You can tell your kids all you want, but if your son is a huge basketball fan and he idolizes Kobe Bryant, there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. Kobe has influence on his life. Kobe also is a terrible person to look up to. As it turns out athletes do hold a certain amount influence that we as parents have to deal with.
Mailinator1892
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I am not suggesting that, but what I am suggesting is that it is up to the parents to guide a child in that respect. The conversation can be a simple conversation of the rights and wrongs and behaviors, but their focus should be on the role models that are most important, family, coaches, etc. Athletes are not role models.

People want to watch Tiger play golf instead of Fred Couples or Tom Watson because Tigers better at golf.

Huh? Come on Muy you are better than this....Why would you have your kids view an athlete as a role model? At the end of the day it is up to us as parents to teach kids that athletes are not role models. Sure you can say that's how you play golf, baseball, football, etc. but they aren't role models.
Muy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't want my kids having athletes as role models because they are athletes, but rather people of strong character, whether they happen to be an athlete or something else. Does that not make sense either?

Sam - I know that most folks want to see Tiger, that is my point exactly - and that is why he gets paid what he does. I don't - or at least I don't want to see/hear as much as we have been lately. and you are a fool to think, right now, folks want to see him cause he is so good at golf - people are watching because of all the other things in his life.

i guess no matter how good i was at a sport, i'd personally want to take the high road. i wish he would change his attitude, because his game is amazing. that being said, i wouldn't want to be lumped in the same group as ty cobb, barry bonds, and bill russell, great athletes that the fans hated. i hope to see him change and hope his attitude isn't one of 'i don't care what people think as long as i'm the best ever.'

You preach it and I'll turn the pages.

I've given Eldrick a pass for long time about his language on TV. Sundays' tantrum on the tee box and his self- centered, ego driven rant with Peter Kostis was too much. I don't give a rats about his personal failures off the course but throwing his rattle out the highchair displays ON CAMERA (which he knows is every shot)are weak and out of line.

The Tour continuing to allow it to happen is just another part of our countrys' moral demise.

and i agree about the role models. a person chooses their role model, not vice versa. these athletes don't ask it, but are inherited it.
