Ae we talking about the same article? This one?

http://texas.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=893953

From the orangebloods article:

SAN ANTONIO – Lufkin, Texas, defensive tackle Jamarkus McFarland said parts of a class assignment referenced in a New York Times article detailing his recruitment were "spiced up," but the recruit and his mother stood by the remainder of the newspaper's story.

Kashemeyia Adams, McFarland's mother, said she was quoted correctly in her criticism of Texas' recruitment of her son. Adams declined to correct or clarify any of her comments in the piece, standing by the comments.

"I don't have anything to add to it," Adams said. "We knew people wouldn't be happy. The truth is the truth. I have no reason to lie. I have nothing to change (about the story)."

I also don't see any quotes from his coach nor team members

Did anyone ever take those pics of her home and car like I suggested the day the article came out?

The original account screamed of a woman who tried to get paid and OU was high bidder.

I can't post premium information from another site here.

Start with "parts" and "spiced up", and no specifics as to time, location or attendees, especially considering that the party he supposedly went to was going on while Texas players and staff were on buses on their way back from Dallas to Austin.

This guy did a total hack job on Texas for only reasons he knows, can't corroborate any of the story except to say that "parts of it were spiced up" and that the mother has "nothing more to add"

Sorry, this isn't the bonanza that you hoped it would be and is actually going to be pretty painful for this kid and probably OU if the proper scrutiny is brought upon it.

I know that Mack would welcome such a light being shed on the situation.

I am not sure Stoops wants anymore problems with the NCAA

Wrong:

quote:
Asked if he had any knowledge of possible recruiting improprieties, Brown answered: "Absolutely not. We encourage the NCAA to check out every player we're recruiting every year. We call them and ask them, too. We welcome them."

Brown seemed ready to move ahead to bowl preparation.

"If I worried about everything bad written about me in my life, I'd never sleep," Brown said.

He never mentioned UT players, coaches or those associated with UT as being at the party, he said it was a party by the fans. He said parts of the story about the party were spiced up but mostly true.

Do I think the NYT writer and the Mcfarlans had an agenda? Yes

Do I think that UT is better off for not getting the kid and his Mother? Yes

Do I think the Orangebloods article debunks the whole story and should be looked upon as a valid source? No

It's also obvious the kid is crawfishing at the request of OU...not his pastor.

The kid's high school coach, other recruits and other players have basically blown up this story line item by line item.

NONE of it is factual and he has gone into a "no comment" shell after being asked specifics on ANY of it.

Do you really think Mack Brown would ask a recruit's mother if his house was bigger than Bob Stoops' house?

Do you REALLY think that is even remotely possible?

I don't care how much you hate Mack, you have to admit there is NO shot of anything like that EVER happening....yet this "reporter" took it hook, line and sinker and found a paper that would publish such unsubstantiated bull ****.\

Like I said, Mack did the right thing, backed off of this circus act and now the ball is in Stoops, court.

Either shut the kid up or get he, his mother and this "blogger" to answer for what amounts to libel.

This won't just go away.

Wait, you say all of that and then call it a circus act? Why?

That whole part had me laughing. Mack would never ask that and if he did Sally would slap his ass. I also doubt there is a flat screen in every room. It is especially unbelievable since he and Sally bought a smaller house a few years ago. So why would he ask if it was bigger than someone else’s?

The fact that he paints Mack, Pete, and Les as bumbling idiots when it comes to recruiting is ridiculous.

Have you read the Orangebloods article we are talking about? Not the free one written by Geoff Ketchum, which, although it raises a number of good points, is mostly based on opinion.

The article written by Chip Brown contains actual quotes from McFarland's uncle which contradict much of what his mother said about the Texas coaches. It contains actual quotes from McFarland's high school coach, which directly contradict what his mother said about him AND the Texas coaches. It contains actual quotes from three people who were with McFarland that night in Dallas which blow McFarland's story wide open, and not just the "drugs, booze, and girls romancing each other part" but the "party" part, the "Texas fans" part, the "hotel" part, and pretty much everything else he said. Brown even called McFarland's mother (because that's what real journalists do ... give everyone a chance to tell their side), and she refused to talk to him.

Given that the NY Times writer published very slanderous things about John Outlaw, about UT as a school, about the UT football program, and about Mack Brown, you'd think, as a journalist, he would consider it his responsibility to contact those people, tell them what was going to be printed, and ask them for their side. He didn't even try to contact them, and McFarland has since admitted that the article is based on events he described in a fictional English paper he wrote for school.

There is no way that story has any credibility at all, and certainly not when compared to the Chip Brown article. Yes, he writes for Orangebloods, but he is also a legit sportswriter with an actual resume to back it up. He's not just some guy who works for a recruiting site. He knows the meaning of the term "journalistic integrity" and did his best to tell the story correctly by contacting everyone whose name he mentioned and trying to get their take. There were no personal embellishments or "this is what I think really happened" prognosticating. It was straight "this is who I contacted, and this is what they told me." Thayer Evans didn't come close to that, so please don't tell me he's a more valid source of information about this.

I'd like to see this article. Believe me, I'm in no way defending the Times, just the Orangebloods article I previously linked does nothing to disprove anything.

Read the article....the main source is an Uncle who's removed from the situation and lives in Houston. Said I don't know what happened but I know at some point Texas was in the lead but then something happened that caused OU to move in front.

The party scene at a hotel room gets tossed out but they still partied in bars with Texas fans.

Outlaw just stated that Texas recruited the kid in a professional manner.

I think we're going to need a reality TV show to solve this one....
