Interesting, the brick makes a whole lot more sense now that I can see the context that it's in.

I still say it could be a cool place as-is if you're able to go old school with the decor inside.

Our realtor very hesitantly sent this to us, since we are open to houses that don't interest a typical buyer. Anywhere else, I could see it being a gem. But it's definitely not something I would expect to see in a quiet mountain town!

Allll that quirkiness, and then a very bland kitchen.

We love weird houses, but this one is a bit too unique for us. It's a part of the towns history, so I wouldn't want to touch anything in it!

We were possibly going to go check it out, but then saw how small the secondary bedrooms are. Annnnd the proximity to a super busy road was a hard no for us. I did tell my husband that I've always wanted an indoor pond, and a giant rock!

HAR listing for this lovely home.

But, Let's be honest, this pantry is AWESOME!



When will the gray trend be over? SO MUCH gray. It looks like a black & white photo.



Oh, and it's like they said to themselves, "Let's only update 1/2 of this house we want to sell for $1 million; no one will ever see the upstairs, right? I've GOT to have gray walls... but I don't want to mess with my warm beige carpets." I actually prefer the upstairs.

What is great about gray and whites is that you can layer color on top of it with the ability to change it over time without remodeling. You add some indoor plants and color with art and accent pillows. You went heavy with blue accents and now green is trending in. You swap all the accents and update the house.

That bathroom isn't that bad. They need some wood tones to balance it out. Redo the cabinet facades and doors with wood like walnut or maple. Throw some greenery in there and it wouldn't look like the bathroom fight scene to open Casino Royal.

Those cabinets were beautiful brown to begin with. Look at the cabinets upstairs and the wood in the pantry. I'm tired of people painting over high quality wood cabinets because it's the trend. Paint crappy cabinets, not high-end wood cabinets.

I agree with a lot of what you said. Coming from someone who lives in a house where every painted wall is white, there's just too much of it going on there. Too many wood tones clashing with one another and it all jumps out at you when the floor is white along with either white or gray on the walls.

A lot of what was done there ignores the hard finishes so overall it comes off like a bunch of different things someone saw on HGTV or pinterest and decided to try bits and pieces of. In the end it doesn't work all that well.

At the end of the day, however, if I have to choose between well-built and pretty, give me well-built every time. The architect can be a genius, but the materials, skilled labor, and giving a darn are the things that the occupants inside have to live with.
