Probably not even top ten in the state of Texas lmao. We signed an undersized girl in state who isn't on any recruiting service and we signed an italian player who averages 0.2 ppg on her main team but 3 points on her U18 team in the euro cup… so yeah that's the talented recruiting class she signed after just signing one girl last year. She's lost more high school recruits to the portal than that are currently on the roster

So the exact opposite of reassuring.

you would have assumed after we lost 6 girls to the portal last season and only signed 1 high school recruit, that this past offseason we should've gone all in on the portal… but we only added two girls… they average 6 and 5 ppg. Now the question is, would anyone want to come play here and which of the girls with eligibility will still want to play here

Just saw the top player in Texas for the 2026 class made a graphic with her top 16 schools, yes 16 lol, and we weren't even one of them lol and the third ranked player didn't have us in her top 15

For the 2025 class, 12 SEC schools have a girl signed that's in ESPN top 100, we have none

This season has been a throw away. I understand we miss AC but you have a player who is a bucket, who kicks the ball out and plays decent defense in Jada Malone but after looking at stats she is under utilized. Early in the season she left her mark having the second best shooting performance in program history. Against top teams she had 7pts against ranked Tennessee in 11 mins, had 14 points against (at the time) ranked Ole Miss, had 12pts against #5 ranked Texas late in the season. Why are her mins so sporadic? Why do we not
Get her the ball more? Why does she not start consistently? She has the best shooting percentage on the team. She is one of 2 players from the Gary era still left (Sahara being 1 as well). As now a graduate student she could end up in the portal and picked up easily.

At a decision milestone- do we eliminate the once proud WBB program or do we replace the part time coach with someone hungry and WANTS to put in the effort to build a winning program.

I think the thing with Jada is just the liability against quicker post players on defense, as well as in transition. She also struggles to score or get easy looks against taller post players, hence the inconsistent stats. With that being said about her defense, I absolutely believe she should be getting the ball a lot more in the post. There have been only 4 conference games where she's shot more than 5 attempts, which is unacceptable. She needs the ball a lot more than that, even if it's to kick it back out. But teams know we can't shoot the ball and that there is no threat to stretch the court, so they can stack the paint with no worries.

The other problem is, is that we don't have a point guard or any guard who can pass the ball effectively or efficiently. There are plenty of times where we turn it over trying to pass it to Wade or Malone in the lint. We also only have 3 post players total, so foul trouble hurts us. But, Malone should be given a lot more opportunities! I'd rather her and Ware shoot 40/50% on 8-10+ plus looks each than us shoot 25 threes to only make 5 lol

The second paragraph is the key. We don't run the offense through the post because we don't have guards that can get them the ball effectively and consistently. Jada is the best finisher on the team when she gets the ball low and has a step on her defender (or she's lucky to be in a mismatch situation). You've seen flashes from Erica Moon (excellent passer and distributor). She hasn't played enough for the posts to really gel with her; other guards will see an opening and then throw it 25 yards out of bounds. We have run some high low plays that have been effective but just aren't good enough shooters to make other teams pay when the high low isn't working.

One thing I love about Jada is she gives 100000000% when she's in the game. She's trying so hard and does need to be acknowledged more. I think Ware gets the start as the oldest on the team and because of her length and size. She's also super positive on the court no matter the situation or how far we are down.

I believe we have the posts to compete; we do not have a 1-2-3 combo that has been effective this year.

Crap - we even struggle to pass the ball in on the baseline after a make to even get into an offense.

I completely agree on Jada not being given an opportunity. In the most recent game with Texas for example she outscored both of their post combined who are both taller and bigger. Our problem as I've said before is the guards. They don't play with any rhythm. When the post seals the opponent, the ball has to be coming or you lose your advantage. I see this happen all the time. Ware gets pushed around in the paint. Joni herself said she a shot blocker not a scorer. Ware and Malone should've been playing together for the last couple years. I hate to say it but the longer I watch all I see is favoritism from this staff. Just about every transfer brought in has been an immediate starter worthy or not.

Jada was out last year with a injury - and last year was the 1st year we had Lauren.

Although true I don't think that takes away from the other sentiments. They could have played together more this season and had ware as high post in which she doesn't like to be physical and had Malone on the block in where she does like physicality and can finish at the rim or kick it out. Guards have to be ready, willing, and able to make the shot or make a decision that doesn't end in a turn over.
