I think the thing with Jada is just the liability against quicker post players on defense, as well as in transition. She also struggles to score or get easy looks against taller post players, hence the inconsistent stats. With that being said about her defense, I absolutely believe she should be getting the ball a lot more in the post. There have been only 4 conference games where she's shot more than 5 attempts, which is unacceptable. She needs the ball a lot more than that, even if it's to kick it back out. But teams know we can't shoot the ball and that there is no threat to stretch the court, so they can stack the paint with no worries.
The other problem is, is that we don't have a point guard or any guard who can pass the ball effectively or efficiently. There are plenty of times where we turn it over trying to pass it to Wade or Malone in the lint. We also only have 3 post players total, so foul trouble hurts us. But, Malone should be given a lot more opportunities! I'd rather her and Ware shoot 40/50% on 8-10+ plus looks each than us shoot 25 threes to only make 5 lol
The second paragraph is the key. We don't run the offense through the post because we don't have guards that can get them the ball effectively and consistently. Jada is the best finisher on the team when she gets the ball low and has a step on her defender (or she's lucky to be in a mismatch situation). You've seen flashes from Erica Moon (excellent passer and distributor). She hasn't played enough for the posts to really gel with her; other guards will see an opening and then throw it 25 yards out of bounds. We have run some high low plays that have been effective but just aren't good enough shooters to make other teams pay when the high low isn't working.
One thing I love about Jada is she gives 100000000% when she's in the game. She's trying so hard and does need to be acknowledged more. I think Ware gets the start as the oldest on the team and because of her length and size. She's also super positive on the court no matter the situation or how far we are down.
I believe we have the posts to compete; we do not have a 1-2-3 combo that has been effective this year.
Crap - we even struggle to pass the ball in on the baseline after a make to even get into an offense.
