Texas A&M (1-1) vs Western Michigan (1-0)
Time: 2pm
Location: Reed Arena / College Station
Opponent: Western Michigan
TV: SEC Network+
Stats: https://12thman.com/sidearmstats/wbball/summary
All the way from Kalamazoo, Michigan, the Western Michigan Broncos traverse all the way down South to College Station, Texas to take on the fighting Joni Taylor's. Western Michigan is coming off a 61-52 win against Arkansas State. They too, like us, had 20 turnovers in the game. So if you love your children, I'd keep them away from this game. Conversely, if you're a fan of pastry dough turned over on itself, TURNOVERS, then I'd attend this game because it might be ugly.
Western Michigan is coming off a 12-18 overall season and 7-11 in the Mid American Conference. They will have to replace their leading scorer who averaged over 18 a game last year. They return 10 players, although 4 had season ending injuries last year. They have a full roster with 15 players (almost forgot you could even do that wink wink cough cough), however only 8 saw action game 1. Two of their guards Marina Asensio and Hannah Spitzley played 40 and 39 minutes. They played a lot of small ball with a lineup of 4 guards and a center. That will not work against us so I wonder if they adjust. Their two bigs are a redshirt freshman and freshman at 6'4 and 6'3.
Our ladies are coming off 2 bad games, a loss to A&M Corpus Christi and a close win that came down to the wire against UTSA. Turnovers have been a plenty as well as poor shooting from deep and giving up too many offensive rebounds. We played with more intensity the second game, but the team chemistry and offensive flow just doesn't seem to be there. We don't have a point guard established on offense yet. If we can figure that out and run an offense more efficiently and smoothly. Then it will get a lot better. Defensively we need to stop the mental lapses and breakdowns, too often we have a girl cutting to the basket unaccounted for or we give up an offensive rebound and scatter to recover. Western Michigan isn't a great team but we need to start fast and start strong. The further we string these weaker opponents along the more of a chance we give them. Scoring lulls and turnovers are what have been our Achilles heel so far through 2 games.
We desperately need a win before we play at ranked West Virginia, home to Northwestern State, then head to Atlantis for what will be a TOUGH week!
