Women's Basketball Set to Host Auburn in SEC Home Opener

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas The Texas A&M women's basketball team is set to host Auburn inside Reed Arena at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7 in their first home conference game of the season.

The Aggies (12-2, 0-1 SEC) are looking to bounce back from dropping the SEC opener at Georgia, 54-50, on Thursday. Texas A&M has one of the nation's top defenses, ranking No. 2 in scoring defense (49.2) and No. 3 in in field goal percentage defense (31.5%) in the country. Texas A&M also ranks No. 4 in the nation in rebounds per game (48.8).

Endyia Rogers led the way for the Aggie offense at UGA, scoring a season-high 18 points while also adding seven rebounds and three assists. Aicha Coulibaly was the second leading scorer, putting up 13 points in the contest. With a win on Sunday, the Aggies would secure the 300th victory for the program inside Reed Arena, which opened at the start of the 1998-99 season.

Auburn (11-3, 0-1 SEC) dropped their first conference game to Tennessee with a final score of 67-75. The Tigers rank No. 11 in the nation in turnover margin (7.6).

Up 17-8 at end of 1Q. Fast pace with some high quality stops. Looking better than the guys did last night in 2H.

Has Kay Kay Green been playing? She just seems more like a natural PG.

Really not sure what she is doing. Just no clock awareness and shooting bricks. But - she's young too so that's just situational awareness.

She needs all of Bowels minutes until otherwise proven!

We are just so bad at free throws. Ugghhh

We have to get better at shooting FTs

The whistle blowers are having fun

It's just maddening. Our post player is the best free throw shooter we have on the floor.

I'm trying to understand why we are throwing our hips into the hedges at the top of the key. We're asking for a foul every single time

This is the second time we've had no basketball awareness. We had a chance at the end of both quarters to hold the ball for the last shot and we shot too early both times

I'm not sure why Kay Kay Green isn't your starting PG with Rogers at the 2. The offense runs better with Green and then Rogers can focus on scoring which is her strength

What a difference a few days makes. Last game we shot 29 threes. So far tonight? One.

She turns the ball over… A LOT. And she is probably the worst free throw shooter on the team. She's looking good today, though, and I think she has potential. I think Rogers and Hylton are the best two options with KK a close third.

I would say that has to do with more so of a man to man defense versus a zone

Agree but we are not a team that should be taking 29 threes in a game. We don't have that fire power behind the arc.

Last game they were playing zone and they didn't know how to run their offense against it so they were chunking up 3s. I still don't see an offense but with their talent just play inside out or isolation.

But you can't have a lineup with Rogers as your only guard … Sahara is not a guard and can't handle the ball.

100% agree. Hylton or Sole should be starting with Rogers.

I don't mind a lineup with KayKay. She turns it over a lot because of the surrounding cast she usually has. Would love to see what KayKay could do with the ones in place of Sahara.

She can dribble drive and finish, has decent handles.

The problem is, Sahara can shoot free throws. KK absolutely cannot. So deep in the game you cannot have her on the floor.

Late in the game, sure. Completely agree. But to get the game started and spark some offense/defense, I'm all for KayKay. Even just for the first 5 minutes. She gets the offense moving, which we struggle with

Well, she is a D1 athlete so the coach needs to fix that. No way I would play Sahara just because of her free throw shooting. Sahara probably should ride the bench because Barker and Coolibali are just better players and play the same position

I mean, yeah, you are correct. We have no chance in the SEC if they don't improve their free throw shooting. Coaches are high on Sahara as a starter though so they see something we don't.
