It's disappointing to hear that she was out coached by the coach that replaced her. I didn't get to watch the game bc of my son's soccer matches, but I think I probably would have gone crazy watching that second half. I kept up with stats. The zone is effective for teams that struggle with midrange shooting and it's alarming to see that we still struggle with that. We outscored Georgia by 18 from behind the arc, but took 29 3-point shots to their 8. Free throws? This is the one that gets me and just blows my mind. We were 3 of 7 (ball game difference right there) and Georgia was 9 of 10. How are we such a poor free throw shooting team? Barker was 0-2, Rogers 2-4, and Coulibaly 1-1. We took 7 free throws the entire game. 7. Rebounds were about the same if we dive into it. Each team with 11 offensive rebounds and Georgia with one more defensive rebound than us.
Overall, not a tremendous effort from either team but I think we have to expect more from Barker, Ware and Jones if we want to right this ship. I personally think Sole is/was underutilized. We saw Bowles and Hylton with more playing time. Don't necessarily disagree with the Hylton decision. Really love her game. Bowles shot poorly again at 2 of 13. Not sure if she'd play 20 + minutes for me if those stats continue. She's an excellent player with a high IQ but there are those that excel in practice and then there are gamers. This team needs to decide who the gamers are. I do see Jones only played 15 minutes but bc I didn't watch the game I'm not sure of what happened there.
Just a very very disappointing loss with the talent on this roster. Georgia is talented, too, so I'm not taking anything from them, but let's see how we respond on Sunday. Coming home 0-2 would be an awful start to the conference season.
I don't necessarily agree with the argument about us not being battle tested after playing a cupcake schedule. We had some decent wins during that time. Look at what LSU did last year. Played an absolute walk through non conference schedule, and ended up winning a natty and finished second in conference. It feels good to win no matter who you play and we needed that. If we don't finish top 6 in the conference, though, I will be extremely disappointed.
