Chennedy Carter named National Freshman of the Year by USA Today
Texas A&M women's basketball point guard Chennedy Carter added to her growing list of awards in her young career on Wednesday when she was named the National Freshman of the Year by USA Today Sports.
This comes a week after Carter was named SEC Freshman of the Year and All-SEC First Team by the conference coaches last week prior to the SEC Tournament in Nashville.
Carter started her career with impressive scoring performances and continued that throughout her first season in the Maroon and White. Back in December of 2017, Carter set the A&M record for points in a game when she scored 46 on the road against nationally-ranked USC.
Along with her school-record performance, Carter also scored 20-plus points in 21 games during her freshman season. She averaged a nation-high among freshman, 21.7 points per game.
Now, Carter and the Aggie women await their NCAA Tournament destination which will be decided during the NCAA Selection Show set for Monday, March 12th at 6:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN.
