The freshman will learn the game and may not contribute a whole lot this next year
they will not need to!
From our starting five we lose Danielle and Sydney Colson
Karla has contributed this year, and Kelsey has a year defending Danielle and attacking her on offense
they will both be more than ready
adrienne has been playing well, and will almost certainly start at the one
did I name any freshmen?
NO
we will most likely finish the year next year even stronger than this
and with the incoming talent having time to learn, we are looking at about four more years of dominating basketball

AMC you are most likely correct but it is hard to replace two AAs. But, the talent is their.

Now if GG down the road would get her act together, the Waco/BCS/Austin area could make the Bermuda Triangle look like a playground.

that would be good!
Fraid she might have to settle for third at best tho

It isn't like Bone is a redshirt freshman getting her first college PT next season. She was SEC newcomer of the year and 2nd team all SEC last season...

It's rare that incoming frosh can make an impact. In my years watching BU, Simms seems to be the first getting significant time (again, the quicks, not bigs).

I give you Sydney Carter, Adaora Elonu, and Tyra White as three examples of players who got significant playing time as freshmen.

The difference is obvious...... you're talking about Baylor............. (couldn't resist that)

JR Didn't Tyra get her ACL injury in her first game and red shirted that first year?

Colson played in 37 games as a fish, started 2. Averaged 10.3 minutes per game. Carter had 13.9 min/game her first year and started once.

And Tyra is shown as playing only 1 game her first year and having played only 4 minutes... so that fits, Rudy.

With Gilbert and Bone I don't expect Mitchell to get a lot of playing time. She is work in progress. The good new is with Gilbert and Bone she does not need to come in right away.

I actually think next years team is going to be better then this year even with the lose of Danielle and Sydney (no offense Simmy) I think the addition of true post presence like Bone is massively impacting. A year of development for Gilbert is going to be a helpful. We will not be small next year and we not only won't be small we will have highly skilled player over 6'3 which is something we have not had. It will give us the ability to match up with a variety of teams. It gives us a number of bigs to throw at Griner and wear her down and make her play more D.

I would not be surprised to see Mitchell play some 4. I actually believe that is a better position for her. She is pretty athletic and has very nice 18 to 15 ft jumper actually. You just never saw it in games because she always was in the post offensively or defensively but I saw I pre game a good bit and she can shoot the ball well, very nice stroke. She is not that heavy but I feel she could pose a lot of problems for teams at the 4 and she could probably defend that position pretty well to IMHO.

At times like these it's easy to get carried away. I'm extremely excited about next season and the remainder of this one. But it is also a cold, hard reality that Griner still has two years remaining, Odessy Simms is gonna be a handful to deal with, and Baylor also has several phenomenal new players coming in. As bright as our future is, we are still gonna be in a dogfight year in and year out for the foreseeable future with the Lady Bears.

Yes of course Tyra tore her ACL in her first game as a true freshman. Redshirted that season, and was a redshirt freshman in the '08-'09 season. She had all of 4 minutes of game experience.

Forgive me for getting back to the original point of this thread...a friend who was sitting near the Bear bench in Dallas tells me that Kim was pretty profane down the stretch. Said a few forbidden words rang out loud and clear. So much for a "calmer, more subdued" Bear coach.

You can blame Baylor for the thread hijack.

I will tell you this. I know Kelsey on a personal level, she has practiced with this team so much this year and is very hungry to get back on the court. with her and the others coming in along with who we have now. This team will continue to be a National Contender team. Forget what any bear seems. Obviously they don't know the Griner/Bone rivalary will continue and be DAMN good.

OPAG, none taken. The whole point is to get better each tear, that's what I've preached since I first started posting on Texags and why I also preached we needed this board. Low and behold, now I have to dig through pages about WBB. This is awesome and I wish the team nothing but success in the future.

I hope to see Skylar play more next year...maybe as the spark off the bench like Baker this year.

Syd Carter will be the leader of the team as a senior.

The 3 bigs are closer to 6'5", 6'5", 6'7".
Hopefully the strength coach is helping Gilbert develop her upper body.

Bone will have an immediate huge impact having practiced with the team all year. I think the team will be more balanced next year on the offensive end, both from scoring inside and out, as well as scoring from all 5 positions.

White will likely be the "go to" player on offense, but I don't see the need to run plays
through someone the way it is this year with Adams. Coach will have some great sets for each player and position.

Finally, the outside shooters will have more open looks due to the size and ability of our post players!

Pratcher has too much game and too many smarts to not play a lot as a junior. I think her confidence is very high right now. Should be a great situation with Standish coming in.

Hoping the 10 boards and 8 points vs. bu by Elonu in Dallas will be more like her typical game going forward! She is so silky smooth when she is on her game!

We recruit offense and teach defense...yes, it takes awhile with some players for the light bulb to go off on the defensive end and make the commitment...they figure out pretty quick that they don't play if they don't play Aggie defense! The way to get pulled from the game is to slack on defense...it is not due to missing a shot.

Lots of examples, but for one...Tyra was not that great on D for awhile.....she is pretty good on that end now, and works hard at it.
The team has to just watch Carter to get it!

I'm not worried at all about leadership or chemistry next year. I think both will be great.
The experience of being at the Final 4 will pay huge dividends in every aspect of the program, including recruiting.

No way we will be as good in game 1 or early in the season, but the potential will be there to be better by conference play and a possible return to the Final 4. Blair has a program and will continue to reload for the foreseeable future!

the latest from the cesspool:
quote:
a lack of discipline
Was at both NCAA games in Dallas and last year in Memphis. Am now a waning Lady Bears fan:

1. During the national anthem, the A&M women stood at attention and looked respectfully at the flag. Several of the Lady Bears were talking and cutting up.

2. When the team came onto the floor both games, they were VERY lackadaisical. the A&M women and the Phoenix ran out purposeful and in formation. Our women just sort of showed up on the court and began shooting. The circle the women frequently do of rocking back and forth - it was like our women had never done that, it was clumsy and they were all going different directions. Just didn't look sharp.

3. I do not want to see Baylor player cutting up and talking during the national anthem

Way too hard to predict the impact of personnel changes next year, but you don't lose the first All American in the history of Aggie WBB without a big impact. But for all the reasons already posted, there should be optimism for another great year next year. First things first, Final Four!

No doubt tamu will be a force to reckoned with for years to come. There is too much talent coming in not to be.

I think the leadership role is Carter's for the taking. Now I'm not close enough or familiar enough to ya'lls program to know about the leadership ability of Elonu (sp?).

Think about Romo in Dallas. The dude has all the talent in the world and couldn't lead a thirsty man to water (now i've pissed "some" ags off on two subjects). Now I know Carter is more of a leader than Romo because it takes work, smarts and study for an undersized guard to play the lock down D she does. Hopefully she will ve vocal enough to take the role.

I know that talent will only take a team so far (i.e. 09/10 bears after Jones went down and 08/09 bears after J Player went down). Someone other than the coach has to take that talent, the game plan, the in-game adjustments and pull their team together. They have to lead in the weight room, the film room, practices, meetings etc... Can Carter fill the shoes of your AAs?

em23, et al, If some of you think i'm trying to belittle your program, think again. You can go back months and read where I've talked about Bone and Standish and Coach Vic. I'm waiting on the million dollar baby in Austin to join the party and make the HOT the place to be for WBB. It's a great game and I want it all in our corner of the world.

Let me get some responses and then bring this one to a close from my end. The future talk is for the summer.

You've missed the point Mr Bears - she doesn't have to. Carter is already one of the team leaders - leadership is not an issue.

Like Sim said - the team will have a completely different look next year, and will be damn tough.

Bone has shown alot of leadership qualities during practice etc. She has been mentoring fresh all year....has worked hand in hand with the bigs.....pushed Adams during practice....under Jen her conditioning is top ...and she has muscled up....

Karla has come along way this year and her upper body strength is much better....and she has worked hard on positioning....

Hope Mitchell gets in for the summer and Jen has a chance to get her in a conditioning program etc.

When season kicked off last year we were all amazed at how in shape the entire team was....I expect no different this year.....the first thing fresh learn is to listen and learn D and missed assignment etc will get you running Reed steps - and as we all know those suckers are steep.

Kelsey has come through this year for us ....I would definitely call her number when the chips are down and we need a bull down in the paint she takes $$$$ from noone she'll fight to the death......she also has some cool moves to the basket.
