Looking to invest some money into stocks and hold those stocks for the next 3-5 years.

Want to hear some options that other people are thinking about. This is obviously an extremely broad question but I just want to see if there's anything people believe I should be throwing money on now and hold.

NVDA has a stranglehold right now from what I can tell and will for the next few years at the least. MSTR is basically just another BITC repository and I have looooong scoffed at BC to my chagrin over the years. I already told my main sob story about it in the long stocks thread but I also had a PHYS prof that was obsessed with it and was constantly trying to get us to consider us broke college kids to invest back in 2016 as well. I remember looking into it but no way I was going to by in at $600!! Fool's gold. Might as well just light that cash on fire...

I hate myself so much.

So anyways, I'm going long on MSTR as well this year.

Highly second the TSSI recommendation above. Try to get in on pullbacks at the $10 neighborhood. If they give guidance this next Q the stock is going to run (they haven't been giving guidance, but I think they have enough clarity on the go forward business now that they potentially will; especially knowing the recently completed 2024 Q4 earnings will be light earnings-wise due to moving into a new facility). If they can simply execute on what business they have in the pipeline, a $1 eps run rate by Q3/Q4 2025 timeframe is not unreasonable with a 20x multiple. The amount of AI data center announcements in the last six months just in our region has been bonkers.

Two other microcaps you may want to consider.

Kraken Robotics (KRKNF) - key battery supplier for drones; one of Anduril's biggest suppliers for underwater unmanned vehicles (my guess is they get bought by them at some point)

Intermap Technologies (ITMSF) - Geospatial mapping for governments, military and commercial uses. Big contract with Indonesia currently. Insurance companies use this data as well.

Any of you following FNMA? Do you think the Prez will privatize? It's $5 now but some estimates I've read say it could go over $20-25.

There is certainly going to be ups and downs in the crypto market, but in regards to Bitcoin specifically, I can't see a world where BTC doesn't hit or exceed $500K by 2030. In that case, you want to have some exposure. Owning BTC directly works great if you understand physical security and hardware wallets. If not, then MSTR is your bitcoin proxy. GL!

It's a great inflation hedge and is slowly replacing physical gold as a store of wealth. Far cheaper to store and easily portable if SHTF.

I'm not really in disagreement except your last comment. One has been a store of wealth spanning civilizations. One hasn't even experienced a bear market nor operated outside of the biggest expansion of modern money supply in history. I'm a BTC believer, but still want to see it prove it does what it's intended before I'm willing to let that comment become truth. I think you need both.

For long term investing I always recommend high yield dividend ETFs or even stocks. here's some ETFs you can look at:
ETFs: $SPY, $QQQ, $IVV, $VOO, $VTI, and $VUG
High yield dividend ETFs: $SCHD, $VYM, $DGRO, $SDY

NVDA is trading at something like 30-35x projected 12 month earnings, which isn't unusually expensive for a growth stock. Question, then, is can a 3 trillion dollar company actually be a real growth stock? I was thinking no, but the more I read about 1) the insane compute requirements for reasoning model inference (orders of magnitude large than required by traditional LLMS), 2) how hard it is to blend hardware and software like Nvidia is doing, and 3) their smart, well executed moves into potentially massive peripheral industries like robotics, the less sure I am.

I'm starting to believe there's a path to a 7-10 trillion dollar market cap over the next 3-4 years that doesn't rely on hype and insane multiple expansion.

Got some MSFT down around 415 today for a long term hold.

XBI and ARKG are my Biotechnology ETFs I like very long term. Prices are coming back down now due to concern rates won't come down anytime soon so I'm getting a little more to replace what I sold when everyone thought rates were gonna keep coming down
