I have had an ongoing problem with my google business listing. Despite owning my business for 26 years now, google suspended my account access for some unknown reason. They say it's for not following their guidelines - but I've read their guidelines over and over and there is nothing I can see I'm doing wrong. It's a very basic profile with my business description hours, location, etc.

Despite the foregoing, my google business listing has remained active (I just can't edit it, respond to reviews, etc.)...until now. My listing now says "Permanently Closed." This is a HUGE problem. I'm not closed and never have been.

So now google says I'm closed - but I can't even dispute it because I don't have account access.

I've tried to fix the account access problem in the past by following all of their procedures (including send them all kinds of documentary proof) - but never get anywhere. And it's impossible to talk to anyone on the phone.

Does anyone have any advice and/or recommendations for someone who can help?

This might be one of the rare instances when one of those radio advertisers (Reputation Defender, etc.) might be worth calling to see if they can rapidly correct the issue - they know some tricks of the trade you don't. Just don't sign any long-term contracts.

Sounds like somebody, maybe a competitor, sent some suggested edits to Google that you were either closed or something like that.

Or somebody got a hold of your user password

Yeah I've tried everything google offers and nothing works. It's really an effed up system. Agree it was probably a competitor. I found someone who says they can help.

It's very disappointing how much power Google has related to these issues and how little they are willing to provide support/help

It's incredible. I followed every link they provided to try to remedy the issue, submitted documentation (current licensing on file with the state, real estate records, utility bills, website, photos, etc...), appealed, etc etc etc. All I got in return were very basic "denied" responses, if anything - never any explanation. It's incredibly frustrating and could really hurt my business.

Dealing with sort of stuff is infuriating. I don't think Google or Yelp or anything like that should be able to list anything about a business without the business itself doing the listing.

I had those listings (not done by me) on an RV park we own. I had a landline phone number but to actual landline, when someone called the number it rolled over to my cell phone. Due to some changes i made with the internet, I dropped the landline to avoid continually paying for it. I had some people move in and they told me that my phone was not a working number. Oops.

Should be easy enough to change that. But to edit it, I had to have proof it was mine. The options for doing so were:

1. They could call me, but of course the number was no longer valid.
2. They could email me with a code, but the email had to be a company email (not a yahoo.com, hotmail.com, gmail..com). Did not have that since email was never used in the business.
3. Or they could snail mail me with a code, but I had no mailbox since I had no reason to ever get mail at the location.

The easiest solution was to put up a mailbox long enough to be able to get the code so that I could edit the listing.

Yep, no one knows who had the original access to our Google business profile. When I try to send an email to allow me access it says that an email was sent to g**@**.com; Way too short of a clue for us to recognize whose email that is

It also drives me crazy that when you google the business name sometimes the Google business profile knowledge panel pops up on the right side and looks amazing, other times it disappears for days for seemingly no reason. Since the business name is semi generic I imagine this impacts click through rate a decent amount.

Small claims in California. It's becoming common to use that because they will actually have to respond and will send an attorney.
