Anybody having trouble? This article discusses their lousy customer service, including not completing Roth transfers.

Ive been with Vanguard for over 10 years and never had a single issue with them. Ive only had to call customer service 2-3 times or so and they were always really helpful. I was able to speak to someone right away, and they were always native english speakers (no offshore Indian customer service).

Ive heard posters on Bogleheads that had issues, but never personally experienced them.

I noticed their customer service wait times increase substantially at the beginning of '22 when I needed to rollover my 401k from my old job. They recently decided to add more fees, even one for account closure, which was the nail in the coffin for many.

I began setting up new accounts with Schwab; their platform is light years ahead of Vanguard and customer service has been very responsive. Vanguard honestly doesn't seem to care about being a broker as much as running their funds and ETF's. I still use Vanguard ETF's extensively, which skirt any fees for buying shares of their conventional funds on other platforms like Schwab.

I noticed a while back that they've moved some operations to El Paso, Texas. That said, when I've spoken with a representative, I've suspected that they've been working from home and have divided attention.

Maybe it's just a sign of the times with WFH, but I've even had some head-scratching messages delivered from their email system that made me question if they knew what the hell they were doing.

It's purely anecdotal, but one of my large commercial insurance brokers moved operations to El Paso about three or four years ago and the quality of their customer service really plummeted. Heaven forbid that I ever need to file a claim!

I've been a long time Vanguard user, both personal and business. I'm a pseudo Boglehead.

Here this last week, I've worked with my daughter to open up an IRA account on Vanguard. The on-line app to set up an account is broken, and she talked to someone in India last night that promised to send her account docs by email... never happened.

It should not be this hard to set up an IRA. Might be trying Schwab or Fidelity now...

I have not had any terrible interactions, just normal call center issues, i.e. they want to transfer you to do a different group for different requests... Their self service Roth conversions have gotten way better over the last 2 years. I don't have to call them anymore to do Roth conversions, however it is still a little janky. I could only do the roth conversion by contributing to the IRA directly from my checking account. I could not move money from my brokerage/money market account without calling.
