My family recently leased our mineral rights in the Eagle Ford to Rosewood Resources, they spent a pretty significant amount to acquire the lease. Does this company have a history of drilling fairly quickly or are they known to acquire leases and then let them expire?

They are leasing lots of land there and into Dimmit. Do you know what bonus and royalty?

We had the option of $750 an acre and 22.5% or $500 and 25%.

In Fayette they've been leasing around Flatonia in the SW part of the county.

The bonus on all that acreage adds up after a while, and the meter's running on the time to drill, but I don't believe (haven't checked lately) they've been granted any permits in Fayette.

Rosewood, at least at one time, was affiliated with the Hunt family.

Sounds like you already signed the lease. Am curious why you asked the question in the OP after as that would strongly affect the decision above.

We have mineral rights in several areas that get leased often. Our sections in the Permian have been divided among heirs, but as they are all adjacent, the leasing company always wants them all together. In our area, it has been a while since they have actually drilled but my cousins always want the higher royalty as they are greedy. I've been lucky to structure my lease (all individual even though wanting the grouping) to get the higher lease per acre with lower royalty. My dimwit cousins haven't figured it out yet that the leases in that area aren't for drilling but as preventative (I'm forgeting the O&G term people use on that)

Now other areas that are known to be drilling almost always, then go with the higher royalty.

I asked the question not wanting an answer of should I sign the lease but more of a question of what my expectations should be. They are drilling in our area but it's not super busy. We took the higher bonus.

The Caroline Hunt family. And I believe they will drill as opposed to letting leases expire. They are very conservative when it comes to investing.

Probably depends on what part of the county you live in, wells to the south tend to have higher gas production and would not be attractive to drill in this price environment unless they want to hold the lease.

How about Lonesome Dove. Have some guy calling me wanting me to put money into a new oil well investment. Sounds too good to be true which means it's probably a scam or very risky.

I would advise against making any oil and gas investments based on a cold call. There is plenty of capital in the space for good or decent deals. If someone is purposely raising money from oil and gas outsiders, they probably weren't able to raise it from insiders.

Rosewood is a fantastic private operator and runs a very good, conservative company. They are one of the better private operators out there.

Noticed that they have applied for a few permits this month in Fayette.

Thanks for pointing that out.

It's been a while coming, but from the plat it looks like they've got a 1300 acre unit that they'll put 3 wells on with mile and half laterals. That's a big check to write.

FWIW, it's 1 mile SE of Flatonia targeting oil in the Eagle Ford.
