Have about $200k from a business deal I closed and we plan on using about 80% to renovate and enlarge our home. Probably about 12 months, maybe 18 away at the outside, from being ready to take on project as I'm traveling a lot right now.

Where would you place it?

Would really appreciate ya'lls thoughts.

is that the correct ticker symbol?

or SWVXX?

is a 5% return guaranteed for how long?

wouldn't treasury bonds for 2 years be a good play here?

Well the money market is almost fully liquid, with just one day to settle a sale. Personally I'd go with that over bonds.

Any HYSA current rate is sure to decline in <2 years, find a 2 year CD in the $4.5-4.8% range and get it. Secondary market is even better as you can sell with no penalty if you need the money early. Or get a 1 year in the 5.2% range with half and a 2 year with the rest.

He needs the money in 12-18 months.


OP, if you do need the money no sooner than 12 months then a 1 year CD may be best. I'm already seeing HYSA rates come down below 5%, but I can still find one year CDs over 5%.

About a week ago I got a 5.1% CD at Jefferson Bank.
Three month maturity so I'm sure it will be a little lower then.
Makes it easy being local though. That's worth something to me.

Ask your FA about a "structured note". You should get 8% or better with very low risk.
