Contemplating a career move soon but am unsure of what to do for interem health insurance once I find a new job before benefits kick in. Family of 4 and one of my daughters has type 1 diabetes. Thanks.

Looks like Healthplans.com has good information.

Cobra. I had to use it temporarily last year in between jobs. The rates were less than what I could find on the Obamacare exchange and the insurance was better (surprise/not).

Cobra coverage is 24 months I believe if you leave a company, won't be cheap but better than private.

18 months unless you meet one of the exceptions.

Your daughter might also qualify for an 11 month extension of Cobra if her condition meets the providers definition of a disability. Only she would get the 11 month extension though.

Buddy of mine bought a plan with Scott & White for the family. It was very affordable, comparatively...and they had access to good doctors (which is why they didnt want to go through the exchange).

At one point it didnt meet the requirements of Obamacare, but I dont think that's a concern anymore with the mandate removed (dont take my word for it though).

If your location allows, might be worth looking into.

Health sharing plans work for some people (think Medishare). I use Medishare and it has worked well for me for a long time. Typically these type of plans are geared for a faith community.
