I'm 5x on HYPE. Realistically this could turn out to be a serious competitor to Solana towards the end of the cycle. It should already be priced the same as Sui, at least, so very under valued from a fundamental perspective.

Worth a look.

I looked at that a $4 but couldn't buy given our wonderful government restrictions. Really looking out for us.

Yes I know I know vpn

That's why you use a bank safety deposit box.

Still crazy risk to introduce a third party. What if they go out of business? Somehow lose the key? Data breach? Someone could hold your keys for ransom.

Absolutely not.
so, wait, you trust a bank, but not a third party outfit that doesn't have access to your keys?

I think you are the crazy one

It's been in there 7 years. No issues. 24/7 security. What am I supposed to be worried about?

James Tagg has joined the World Mobile team.

He is most famous for inventing the projected capacitive touchscreen which is now found in all smartphones. He made the first VoIP call on a mobile phone and is an inventor of the eSIM.

My biggest concern about unchained is what happens if it goes out of business?

You do not have to trust them. It is just multi-sig whereas to access your coins or move them there must be two "keys" turned at the same time. You hold two keys and they hold one. They can never move your Bitcoin with their one key. But in the event where one of your keys is stolen or destroyed you can call them to utilize the third key.

ETA: I was losing sleep while away on vacation knowing someone could break in to my house and steal my one access point or that my house might burn down. In this case if that happens I just go get my other key and call up Unchained.

ok, so I think I understand now, you get two keys (not a copy but actually two keys), each stored in two separate geographic locations

It's relatively easy to setup your own multisig. Google Gnosis Safe.

Multisigs are the safest way to self-custody. And Gnosis Safes are free.

Bitcoin ETFs. Essentially no fee for online brokers and tight bid/ask spread.

Main downside is they don't trade 24/7

question, If I decided that i wanted to convert a portion of my 401k to BTC, what is the best way to get that done wrt taxes and penalties

It sounds like rolling over to an unchained IRA is the play, curious if anyone out there has used this

You could just buy a bitcoin ETF in your 401k. That way you can buy/sell whenever you want without owing any taxes.

An ETF is not as good as holding the actual coin according to some people, but it does have tax advantages when you hold it in your 401k.

IMO, if you aren't cold storing your passphrase offline, you do not truly own the crypto. Mine is punched into titanium plates. Even if the physical location where they're hidden burns down or is flooded, I can recover. There's still risk of loss, due to physical theft of course.

My larger worry with crypto is whether or not a quantum computer or AI on a quantum computer could crack people's passphrases.

this is why the Unchained IRA is the route I am going to go, transfer funds from an old 401K. I own the keys, it is my BTC, they just manage the paperwork around early withdraw etc

I think it is a great alternative to ibit

I guess im not familiar with unchained Ira. Does it work like a typical IRA except that you can actually hold bitcoin? How does that work?

Is it a Roth IRA or a traditional Ira? I'm assuming you can't have both a Roth/traditional and an unchained?

yea, you can do either Roth or Traditional. you hold the keys to the BTC, which for me is critical, Unchained uses a third party bank to manage the paperwork around the IRA, for example the fees associated with cashing out.

But wrt to the actual btc, you hold it free and clear, in cold storage

yea, I think saylor is in jeopardy of overplaying his hand. MSTR wants to encourage other mid size companies and state governments to adopt a BTC standard, he does NOT want to become BTC.

He needs to slow his roll and let this play out organically imo
