Any of you know any alternatives to coinbase? They are apparently a partner to the WEF which seems counter productive. Uphold seems kinda sketchy as well. Should I just get a hardware wallet or something?

I took a risk and just bought a bunch of cardano hoping it'll jump up in price one day. Not really sure if I'll be making a bunch of new purchases outside of bitcoin moving forward.

Ledger hardware wallet will store ada and future Bitcoin purchases (which you can make efficiently on strike w/o needing coinbase)

Ledger is a must buy.
Strike for BTC.
KuCoin for anything else.

Agree. I will buy ledger and shove it in my safe. I am pretty much 100% BC. Experienced folk, can you help me understand ledger better?

I bought it yesterday. With the bilfodl phrase keeper and everything it took about an hour to set up. It basically syncs with your phone and you "control" it with your phone.

Honestly I am to the point that I want it as far away from my phone as possible.

I want to know the best way to ditch Coinbase and transfer to a cold wallet with the smallest footprint. How do I become as anonymous as possible?

It's not really o your phone...it's just an input device. I guess there are standalone wallets with inputs, but I don't know.

Coinbase holds your coins hostage unless you provide a picture? Even for transferring to a wallet, etc?

Probably more like they're doing the same verification that investment companies have to do for stocks. Photo ID and the like.

If you have a ledger, you should be able to buy though one of their exchanges and have it automatically deposit in your wallet. No need to go through a 4th party.

Me too.

I had completely pulled out relatively flat from last years initial investment and bought about one bitcoin Sunday for 39k. Said 'meh, he aint going to invade.'

Putin saw me do that and immediately called his Generals.

I'm not a bitcoin bro so it's super hard for me to take a long term approach, but I certainly see the value and understand the arguments for it so I'm trying to get into the space.

I'm in so far for about .1 BTC so I can't imagine your pain!

Don't lose hope just yet. I am with most of y'all with a portion of a coin but The big money is still building Bitcoin mining facilities. I have been building a large site in Texas over the last 2 years. I have been in Ohio all week at a new site we just started a month or so ago and just got a call about a possible site with 200 mega watts that could get funding in the next 2 weeks.

It is hard to take these losses but the big money guys are still moving forward. I know of about 1 gig of energy being actively bud right now to start construction in the next few months. That is billions of dollars in cost.

Stay strong!

Can you expand on this a bit as I'm not familiar with ledger? I am looking to buy some BTC shortly and was going to go thru coinbase because it seems like the go-to purchase avenue for newbies.

That's how I started as well. Ledger is a hard wallet, it allows you to buy and hold the bitcoin yourself, not have a exchange hold Bitcoin for you like on Coinbase. Cost depending on the model is around $50-$100 for it. When you hear people talking about keys or seed phrases, a hard wallet is what they are referring to.

Even browser based wallets (metamask, phantom, polkadot.js) all require seed phrases as well as any mobile based wallets (trust, metamask, fearless, sora etc).

If you go down the rabbit hole and use multiple wallets to trade different coins on different networks it can be a lot to keep up with. I had about 8 KSM I moved to the fearless wallet on my phone, for staking. I swear I backed up my passphrase but I dropped my phone and was unable to restore the wallet to another phone. At the time that was like $2400 worth of KSM. Costly learning experience.

Moral of the story, back up your seed phrases and test them.

For those in Texas who hold Harmony ONE here is a Texas Harmony channel that we are organizing to potentially become a Texas DAO on Harmony network. Will be hosting events around Austin initially.

Just did my taxes.... oh boy.

Given the drop since last year I've accrued a pretty large amount of harvestable losses. I suppose I should go ahead and wash those to put them on my books as a loss for this year?

So looks like you buy the ledger hardware, with multiple options, and they're affiliated with some type of exchange for buying the crypto and then you store it on the hard wallet? How do you fund it for the initial purchase?

You can purchase from any exchange and then simply move your asset to your cold wallet (ledger).
Get ready bal. You're gonna in for a problem.

Did admin errors due something specific? He can come across to some as being a bit dismissive and "aggressive", but I never saw it as "disrespectful".

I remember the argument he was in but had no idea it led to a perma ban. And I really don't remember exactly what it was about other than Bitcoin.

It was on F16 and got into it with several of their regulars. You know, the same people that are enraged at cancel culture.

I am sure the mods would give you some holy big mighty justification for it, but I doubt he went any further than those posters go every day towards Democrats.

I am not going to bash on the mods, its ultimately their site. But I think the bans over things such as "ad hominem" attacks is a tricky trip wire.

You can say "that is the world's dumbest idea and another terrible post" and you likely are good. If you say "only someone with limited knowledge would make such a bad post" and you probably get to take 24 hours off.

You should have to be respectful but the hall monitoring of even the slightest nod that your comment was directed at a person, and poof. When its a passionate discussing, its challenging to choose your words to point only at the post or idea with no correlation to the username posting anonymously on the internet that you "personally" hurt a feeling on,
