Crypto is treated as an asset in the tax code (and not currency), so basically apply stock trading rules to CYA.

I think the IRS is going to have a field day popping people trading crypto now that it's mainstream, new, and many don't understandably know the tax rules yet.

Personally, I have an open question on receiving crypto I'm running down right now. (Ex: There are 5-6 coins on Coinbase gifted to you for free if you listen to their 2 min video). These may be a taxable event when I thought it wasn't.

But if you're trading crypto, your losses offset your gains. I don't understand why everyone is so afraid. You pay taxes day trading stocks and you pay taxes day trading crypto. Are there really people not expecting to pay taxes on their gains?

If I had 10,000 yuan, and then converted it to 1,278 Euro's, and the Euro becomes 10% stronger over that time, the US government coming in and saying I owe them now taxes on the unrealized 155 dollar gain I still have in Euros is pretty BS (think I worked out the math right).

Those are sovereign currencies though. Just bc crypto has the word "currency" in the name doesn't make them a currency. They are literally digital assets. Not currencies.

I'd argue that the sovereign currency is just as fiat as crypto. Though I'd lose the legal argument.

Nah

Do you think its still a good investment for buying into at the current price?

The difference is that one is backed by a GOVERNMENT and the other was created a hacker a few years. There is a huge damn difference.

What was obvious?

Ethereum? Easiest investment this century.

What do you like about Link? I've been watching it but haven't started a position. I'm 60/40 ETH/ADA right now.

I know there's a lot of pages on here, but a lot of us are very high on LINK. If you believe in the DeFi space and it's potential, LINK and Cardano will make you a ton of money one day.

I hear a lot of talk about the bitcoin ETFs. That will be a game changer if they get approved. If they have to own the coins, then the demand will be something we've never seen before.

However, the bitcoin index etfs that made some news a couple days ago will not be the same thing. In fact, those could hurt the price of bitcoin IMO bc it gives people the chance to basically invest in bitcoin without anyone owning the coins. So it would actually decrease demand quite a bit. My understanding is that these index etfs just track the price of bitcoin and other coins by certain measures and there is no ownership of the coins.

Is the above all correct? Anyone have different thoughts on it?

Has anyone else had a problem trying to transfer money into Kraken? Every time I try and set it up I get an internal error from the website. It has done this for a couple days now.

I recommend just buying btc somewhere else and sending it to Kraken, way easier. Coinbase, crypto.com, cash app etc. Kraken's trading fees are the best but getting cash in it sucks.

I love LINK but love Cardano and ONE more. I sold all my LINK to increase my holdings of ADA and ONE. I sold 80% of my ETH to do the same. It was the math that lead me too, the current cost vs future potential, and I am playing the 2024/2028 game.

Lucky enough to make first buys of ADA at .42 and ONE at .02 and kept buying dips.
Holding ETH just buy specific tokens on Uniswap that have to be imported.

Multiple ranges. Groups can be divided into 3 ranges as far as price prediction but imo, it could hit $20 this cycle if Alonso main net isn't pushed back and we see a domino effect of ETH transfers.
$5-$8
$8-$10
$10-$15

LatinAggie, when you say that you think Cardano will hit $20 this cycle, what does cycle mean? And when does that end? New to investing and I'm not sure what that means.

Typical Bull run for BTC ends Aug/Sept.
Altcoin cycle typically ends late Oct early NOV. It could always end earlier or extend into a supercycle. Cycles are based on the BTC halving every four years. With mass adoption looming and institutions already making moves it is much less predictable this cycle.

LatinAggie, how did you go about buying C3? I looked on uniswap and it couldn't find it. I'd love to get in early on the cardano ecosystem but I'm having difficulty finding places to buy these coins.

Surely ONE has plans to bridge to Cardano as well. Maybe they've released something about that

ONE announced $10 million dollar in developer bounties last week. I'm expecting them to start pushing forward more shortly

I'm pissed I didn't buy more. I had a recurring buy on it for over a year that I turned off when it got to around $150 because I was budget scrubbing at the time and reassessing all of our spend. Dang it.

Anyone buying some alt coin long shots? I'm holding Safemoon, Bonfire and PolyMoon. Put $300 in Bonfire 2 weeks ago, it's at $4500 right now. Lol. Crazy!

So I want to buy ADA and ONE and it looks like both are on binance.us. So I'm going to attempt to sign up.Do I have to link my Bank account, like I did on Gemini, or can I just by using my credit card. I'm guessing both of these coins have to have their own separate specialty wallets?

Lol. Not a brag when it's total luck. I'm the first to admit it had nothing to do with me knowing what i was doing. Safemoon and PolyMoon aren't doing anything right now. I see coins launching all the time, anyone hearing anything worth throwing a couple hundred bucks towards?
