Please stay out of Denver.

Just imagine how 1/6 would've played out if DC hadn't had such strict gun laws.

Two people starred his post as of the time of this signature. Those 3 people are allowed to vote in the US.

I hope Jeff Bezos puts a hat from every city on the table and has a ceremony to decide

They've built 3 facilities, with a 4th under construction, in the last 3-4 years.. I'm thinking it's a strong contender.

I agree Denver is a strong candidate but it has nothing to do with existing office/fc buildings.

This is a 50+ year vision.

I don't see them going west of the Rockies (throw Denver in there too).

Abbott, with the cooperation of Austin and Dallas officials, are going to lay down some major incentives. I could see this going in between DFW on 30 or on 35 between Austin and San Marcos.

they have a big center just south of san marcos now i believe

We live between austin and cedar park so I would be ok with a south austin location. Even though they'll probably continue with my annual 10% property tax increase anyway along with other "necessary" bond proposals for traffic infrastructure.

I didn't think Austin's airport would be big enough for Amazon. Interesting that they would choose Dallas and not Fort Worth, Plano or Frisco.

Pretty sure they want a real downtown location.
IrishTxAggie

Yeah. It's s fulfillment center.

I honestly think that of the two in Texas, Dallas would be the better option because DFW can support the infrastructure and likely the travel needs a hell of a lot better than Bergstrom. I know we joke about Houston being full, but Austin really is full...

Requirement 1: 30 miles from population center and 45 minutes from international airport.

There is only 1 city west of the rockies on the list.. so yeh, only a 5% chance LA gets it.

That is a negative for Denver; it isn't that far from seattle.

However, this may be part of a bigger plan to have an HQ3 on east cost in 10 more years. In that regard, Denver is perfect geographically.

Bergstrom is an international airport, but I think that's a stretch... It only services Mexico, Canada, and London-Heathrow.

I don't know where they will squeeze in a building in downtown Dallas

I still think this is a 2 horse race between Atlanta and Dallas. Size, areas you'd want to live, airports, mass transit, downtowns, cost of living, etc. I'd be surprised if anywhere else gets it.

I misread, thought you said in between DFW and austin on 35.

I think this would be ideal:

Dallas Smart District

International just means it has U.S Customs on site. MAF is an international airport, but doesn't offer commercial service outside the U.S.

That's embarrassing. I bet the Star and surrounding area was cheaper to build than that would be.

Dallas and Atlanta are in a good position because of their size and infrastructure. I could see Amazon dropping right on top of the Reunion Arena with a multi building facility. Immediately revitalizing a downtown, but a place where people could commute from a huge metro area. It makes sense from an economic perspective.

However, I don't know if Bezos cares about economics. Denver is a short flight away and has a culture that would blend with HQ1. It would be an easy one day flight or a long weekend, with a stay in the mountains. Plus you can smoke weed.

Population is also small out here. Bringing in 25-50k people means Amazon can dictate any policy they want. No taxes breaks, but that's not necessary when the infrastructure and policy is angled to your benefit. Long story short, I think Denver is the pick.

I'm not sure about that, when it comes to Amazon, it seems to be all about economics. The culture of efficiency seems to be his focus, don't think he gives a damn about much else especially pot or being in a "cool" place.

Count me in the group that thinks a centralized hub airport and an existing infrastructure that can handle a potential 50k+ population/employee demand as being key difference makers.

If geographical balance plays in, I'd lean towards DFW or Atlanta being the most attractive options. If proximity plays in, then Denver will be it.

I'm not sure if the northeast is really in play here. The primary culture in the NE vs the culture in Washington state seems so at odds....but maybe that's just my imagination.
