One that we have run into is Usborne Books. Its basically selling children's books via facebook or by hosting parties. The books are neat books, but they are pretty expensive. My wife hosted a party at our house, and we got about $125 worth of children's books for free, based on the number of sales that took place at our party. We have bought some of the books before but at Barnes & Noble or other bookstores.

We've bought quite a few Usborne books as our daughter loves them. Certainly a MLM type product, but at least they actually sell something that is useful

I guess I would be classified as "dumb" by some of you because my family has benefitted tremendously from products from a direct sales company. I'm class of '90 and I don't need income from any direct sales company or "MLM", but in trying to save my daughter's life, and willing to try almost anything, I agreed somewhat skeptically to try a health supplement recommended by a naturopathic doctor.

Prior to this, for 18 months we had tried everything traditional medicine could offer...3 MRIs, numerous bloodwork tests, multiple visits to doctors, neurologists and other specialists all over the country. None of the "smart" educated MDs couldn't diagnose my beautiful (now) 21 year old daughter who was slowly deteriorating, losing her ability to walk or function. They went from MS to Lyme to all sorts of exotic potential diseases as they hypothesized what was wrong.

Long story short, within days of taking the proprietary supplement, which can only be bought via a direct sales company, my daughter became symptom free. I decided to buy some for myself for just general wellness, and guess what? My eczema...that often prevented me from wearing my Aggie ring...went away. Then, I noticed the horrible popping in my hips from arthritis went away. I had given up riding horses, playing sports etc, just thinking that I was getting old. I have been playing basketball like crazy the last few weeks and gone back to roping. Oh, by the way, my 24 year old son and I both lost over 25 pounds within 2 months of taking these supplements.

So, when my family has benefitted so much from something that is generally criticized on here, it gets me fired up. I get pretty annoyed at the small minded CRITICISM I see played out on these boards, whether it's towards our beloved sports teams and coaches, or something like non-traditional methods of business (MLM). I've never seen the statue of a CRITIC. I would suggest you read the Man in the Arena by Teddy Roosevelt. Find something more productive than criticism.

I don't like being sold. Don't particularly like most sales people. But I have more respect for those who have the balls to try to better themselves (and just maybe save someone's life) than for those "smart" critic types who sit back and point the finger at those who are striving valiantly "in the arena".

Valid points, Tb30. I understand that most criticisms are towards the annoying marketing and not so much towards the products or services. Nonetheless, I dislike the overall spirit of condescending arrogance by some who have posted previously on here. Adjectives like "stupid and ignorant" are routinely scattered throughout this thread...and again...I understand most of those references are towards the gullibillity of people thinking they will get rich, or towards how they go about promotion.

The thread just hit a nerve with me because I would gladly tolerate stupidity and annoying marketing tactics for the rest of my life, knowing that some of these companies have legit products that are life changing. I might have reacted a little too strongly, and I apologize.

What is this life saving miracle drug that appears to cure all ailments?

DallasAggie0, if you are referring to my earlier post, I never indicated that it was a drug nor that it was a miracle that would cure all ailments. I simply said a product had helped my family trememdously. The supplement helps our bodies heal themselves by removing toxins that build up over time. It flat out worked for us. I'm sure you can search online for a variety of products that do this.

I think he wants to know what product you use instead of just trusting google. Word of mouth is much better than online reviews

Ok, but keep in mind that when I share this, I am NOT posting my name or trying to sell anything. I will gladly share this freely because it might help someone else. You can actually buy it through Amazon now I believe, though at higher prices. It's called Ionix Supreme but works in conjunction with a cleansing protocol from Isagenix once or twice a month to remove the toxins. I'm a country boy and like red meat, beer and whiskey. I haven't given any of that up and cleansing was something I would have previously laughed at. Not anymore.

I had no idea that MLM companies were now marketing livers and kidneys.

Clever, AggieChemist. As I indicated, our bodies (liver & kidney supported) have the potential to heal themselves. Sometimes a person like my daughter just needs a little nutritional support to assist the body in doing the job that it wants to do in the first place. When the pharmaceutical drugs and steroids they gave her were unable to help, this system worked. I'm obviously no doctor or chemist. I'm just grateful.

lol I just went to their website I don't even see a way to buy one. It just says at the top "get your own site" and directs you to register for a webinar. What a scam. Why can't these network marketing companies sell the product itself. What a scam.

Are there any types of products one could use in one of these schemes that men would be on board selling? Or are most men too embarrassed to do this stuff? I'm thinking outdoor related monthly boxes or something. Seems untapped.

These don't work as well with men. If you were trying to sell me something and I know the company model is to sell to "distributors" and tell them to mark it up 100%, I'd just offer 10% over cost instead of double.

Oh you want $100 for your super duper power tool? And your cost is $50 and you have no storefront? How about $55 instead.

I got in on the ground floor of a product that grows back toes. I lopped three toes off with a chainsaw and the product "Re-Grows Toes" had me back to wearing flip flops in no time at all, and without fear of being made fun of by others. Initial tests had some poor results because it didn't know which toes to replace and I wound up with two big toes on the same foot. So I removed one of the big toes and it grew back the proper toe. That problem has been ironed out though now.

I love this thread. MLM is bull crap. I feel sorry for the people who lose money, but I also can't stand the way they push the product.

Our neighbors invited us to their house one time. It was for "party". We were honored until they started pumping the crap.

I also immediately shut my ears the moment I hear the word toxins, if the person cannot A) specify what the toxin is B) provide a high level overview of science behind process

I am not saying that those products don't work, I just hate the generic toxin word.
