This is the Texags B&I board. We simply assume that if you don't immediately jump up and do what we recommend, then you're ignoring us and we're greatly insulted. We expect to see a Craigslist add for that car by the end of the business day and you're not privy to any more ideas until you've met this requirement.

What are you...new around here or something? HOP TO IT YOUNGSTER!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for the great advice this time last year. I took a lot of to heart and changed my finances around a great amount, see my progress below. I know it's just a year but I've learned a ton from posting and lurking (sorry if I annoyed anyone with my what allocation should I have posts)

Emergency fund - In Tact
Engagement - Done and paid cash!
401K - up to company match
Debts - Working on this now!

Thanks again guys! I have a lot of progress to make with the student debts but I have a solid plan now!

Congrats! I briefly scanned through the thread and my main question is did you end up selling your car?

So, is the future wife privy to your plan?

I think he was pretty clear he wasn't selling the car. Obviously he can make it without selling. The point of selling was to be safer and have more money in the near term and long term. Sometimes cars are more important than money.

Of course, which is just one of countless reasons why I pulled the trigger.

And no, I decided to keep it but it will be the last time I don't go frugal with a car purchase.

While you're in to graphing things, try graphing future value of $300 per month for 5 years at 6-8%. Then take that future value and project 30 years with no additional input at 6-8%.

I like it a lot, it's helped me a ton to understand the big picture and where my money has been going. I think it's pretty secure and did a bunch of research beforehand. Check out this article too" http://bucks.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/07/06/should-you-trust-mint-com/?_r=0

A daily car is never a good investment under any circumstance, and unless you are going to be one of those guys that keeps a car for 7 years+, you might as well lease.

*ducks out the back*

Man I paid $5k for my first car, $12 grand for my second car and $20k for my third car, the only new one (sold it for $10k 2.5 years later First two cars I made what this guy does, and by the third car I made about twice that.

Some people just have different priorities I guess!

Now I don't pay a dime for a $40k company truck, and if I lost it, I'd go back to a $20k car.

Cars are such a waste of money hah. Learned that from my dad.

I bought a new car a few months after college. But it was only $18k, and I'm going to hit 10 years of ownership in about 6 months. If you are going to buy a new car, that's how it should be done.

Yep. And the point of my follow up post was I have started making MUCH better decisions. Not for people to keep piling it on...

I'm curious as to how much debt you will be taking on once you get married?

Or hopefully she is rich, or at least debt free.

I would have sold the car.

Correction: I would have never bought the car in the first place but in a mythical world where I did...I would have sold it.
