I usually turn mine down to 20% when it gets to single digits and that helps with the condensation. Running the ceiling fans on low also helps.

We didn't get much up here in Erie either but looks like Boulder got dumped on. This sure was a heavy one so kind of glad we didn't get too much.

Tell me about it. It's normally a 4-5 minute drive to Kings, and it took 15+. People were driving way too slow... gotta be a bunch of new Texans and Californians.

I think it was closer to 12.5:1 which is more typical for a late spring snow here. For reference it was about twice as heavy as our storm the beginning of the month.

Is anybody else following the DCSD **** show that has been unfolding in the last weeks/months?

Today the board announces they will interview and voting on finalists for superintendent in a meeting on Feb 24th.

~2 weeks after Corey Wise was terminated. 2 Weeks to find a superintendent that is over ~8,000 employees lol.

Then my wife gets an email that there was a request of the 1,500 names of all the employees who used a sick day back on 2/3.. it's apparently allowed by law under Colorado Open Records Act.. but it's got lots of people nervous. What is the intention of this individual getting the names of the teachers who participated in the walk out?

My wife has 7 years in DCSD, and it will be no more come June. She is not resigning her contract. She is Dept chair of counseling in her high school.
Their vice principal of many years, and seemingly the 'heir apparent' to the principal spot left behind by the current one retiring (who had 30 years), didn't get the position. The board looked elsewhere.

This move may literally leave this high school without a counseling dept. The 6 there, including my wife, are furious.

DCSD pay sucks terribly. My wife had 6 years before coming here, but they don't count previous experience!! What kind of school district doesn't count previous experience! She started as a year 1 payscale.

Cherry Creek counselors @ 10-12 years make about $20k more than her.

DCSD is a complete friken mess.

My speculation is the board knew the finalist before Wise was terminated. This interviewing other people is just for show. I read somewhere that the president said they weren't going to do a national search to save money.

I agree. I was a bit disappointed in how cold Peterson was regarding Wise during the February 4th school board meeting. However, I don't think Peterson would have done that without having his replacement already picked. Peterson has an impressive background, and I hope/think he makes a good hire.

and the ridiculousness that is 'do you vote for the unilateral termination' followed by 2 passes, then Becky Myers saying 'NO', at which point Peterson stopped and said 'you're voting NO for termination?' to which Myers replies, 'I'm sorry, yes'

He was called out immediately by someone saying 'Mike no was her vote, you can not coerce her into changing her vote, you didn't ask anyone else to confirm their vote', etc. etc..

Then Myers says' OH can I GO HOME!'

This is so unbelievable to me.

I support the request/release of the names of the teachers who skipped working on 2/3, as permitted by the law. Actions have consequences, and every teacher should have been prepared for this in advance. In general, I think unions do way more harm than good. My mom taught 40+ years, and she hated unions... they allow bad teachers to stay employed too long in her experience.

My hope is that the intent of Peterson/majority is to increase pay in order to attract better teachers; I know funding will likely be tricky. I'm all for increased pay and merit-based pay, hiring, raises, and so on. It's weird that DCSD pay is so low, and I hope it gets resolved considering this is the wealthiest county in Colorado. We love our school (Eagle Ridge Elementary), principal, and each of the 9 teachers that have taught our daughters.

I'm sorry about your wife, and I hope she finds a new position that pays well.

they (we? The people of Douglas county) already passed the two bonds several years ago that promised better pay. Nothing. They have such a long way to go to catch up to neighboring , or out of state districts. You're exactly right, wealthiest county in CO and top 10 I believe in the US, yet the teacher wage is on lists of lowest in the country. It has to come down to management of funds. We have no money to pay teachers appropriately, no money to build new schools we desperately need, yet we theoretically should have more funds than most other counties.

Oh no need to be sorry, she feels liberated now that she's made the decision. She's not looking for another position. We're fortunate that my compensation has doubled in about 5 years and still room to grow, so while there is a hit to income of course, it's only setting us back about 3 years and we should be back to where we are now in 2-3.

She actually looks forward to trying out subbing. She can show up, have an easy day, then come home and check out. No parents, no emails, no politics, etc. and it pays almost $200 a day. Go figure, about what a teacher makes!
She wants to do elementary or middle school. Doing 4 days a week gives her full time service into Pera, so her years still count.
She might do this for 5 or 10 or whatever, and then try counseling or even back to teaching again, and have those years count towards Pera service.

I think I saw a stat Douglas county lost 19 teachers in Feb so far and more than 30 in Jan. Not a good look overall.
They lost the 30 year tenured special education services director.

It's just terrible what's going on.

What kind of consequences do you think these teachers should face? Previous situations like this, teachers lives were threatened, and there has actually been physical attacks.

Exactly what good can come out of someone getting this list of names and addresses? Nothing. Threats and violence. Those who participated should not have to deal with types of consequences.

Sounds like they denied the request for names of absentees on the walk out day.

It shouldn't be public, because it doesn't differentiate between people who called in sick to walk out in protest and those who actually called in sick, which is dozens of teachers everyday this winter season so far, or those who assumed their kids wouldn't be able to go school so they took the day off to watch them.

It doesn't matter what side you're on, when something like the video I posted earlier happens, that is corruption at its finest. Totally illegal and unacceptable.

The only consequences I think are appropriate are the ability of parents to know which teachers missed that day (and only if permitted under law), but I agree that some teachers (though probably a very low %) missed due to illness or needing to stay home to watch their own children. Were there previous situations like this in Douglas County? I guess anything is possible, but I hope not.

yeh Clark headed the story, but he deferred to one of their experts or what have you that threw out all sorts of stats from previous situations like this. Some teacher was threatened by someone claiming to Inject them with anthrax.. etc etc.

I counted like 3 call ins on the public comment tonight that said they were calling in sick for other reasons: one said he went with his mom with cancer to her checkup, etc. that's 3 out of maybe 30 callins? Feasible to say it could have been a few dozen that were actually out. Everyday in DCDS it's a struggle to fill empty spots with subs, so that goes to show how many are actually out sick (or staying home because kids out sick)
