What's the plan for Denver Aggie watch parties? Still going with Sloans Burger or whatever? I'd like to find a better spot but I'm not sure how to get in touch with whoever organizes it. I'd be up for researching and finding a bar or pub that's available.

If we can't find something I'll probably do Blake Street Tavern. It's a fun place and they have a variety of watch parties for different colleges.
There is a post on FB indicating it is still at Sloans Lake. I agree on finding a better spot. I live about a block from Blake St, so I would definitely be up for there or similar. I'll be out of town for the first game though and then going to the game for week 2, so I won't be able to attend until week 3.

Is the Denver A&M Club still in need of volunteer leaders? Should we texags thread takeover?

What do y'all not like about Sloan's Lake Tap & Burger?

Went there once like a month ago and liked the place.

For me it's the booths and lack of mingling. When I was in Houston I bounced to many different bars for college football Saturdays and it was 100X better for every school than here. They would do raffles and name tags and really got into it. I didn't meet a single Ag when I went to Sloans but met several at Blake Street.

I went to an Aggie watch party once in Seattle and it was great as well.

Booths thing makes sense. Sloan is pretty restaurant-y. If Houston is your mark for college football bars, not sure anything will satisfy you here.

Went to Tom's before the Rockies game the other night. That seems like it'd be a good place for a watch party as long as there wasn't a Rockies game at the same time.

Tom's would be a great place for a watch party. Love the Seth there.

I just scooped up my Jimmy Buffett tickets (at Red Rocks) for the Thursday before the CU game! They've been crazy expensive but I found some good ones for $240/tix and pulled the trigger. Still pricy, but YOLO!

Anyone else planning to double up the weekend? Buffett on Thursday and Aggies on Saturday...

Not Buffett but going to see Bert Kreischer on that Wednesday before the game

Man, I just explored Red Rocks for this first time this weekend. That place is amazing and I'd love to see a concert there.

however - that place looks like it would be a cluster F of a traffic jam during a concert. Hard pass!!!

I am not much of a concert person, but most of my friends that go frequently use some sort of party bus service. I hear that is the way to go.

Yeah that is my problem with it as well, too restaurant-y. Not to mention you have times when the local neighborhood with their kids are having dinner there which kills the vibe even more. If I am at the bar I feel like I am trapped with the person to the left or the right and that is it, and if I am at a table I always feel like I am on an island. Kind of too tight / bad layout for a good flow.

There are definitely some good spots that are much better for watching college football that wouldn't be much different than Houston. The trick will be to get them to accomadate and play the sound for us, as a lot of places are watch parties for mutltiple teams already.

Haha already got one, and we'll be joined by some married friends of ours. Cheapest tickets I've seen there though so far, lots probably still available.

40%? That's wild, and certainly depresses me some. When I moved to Spring in '13 they had recently seen similar appreciation and now it's been pretty flat 6 years later.

I think you said before, but are you in Parker?
Yeh I'm in Parker town limits in 80134.

We purchase in '12 at $390k, it's valued in low/mid $500s now. It ramped up really fast from '13-'16, and has had more realistic appreciation since then.

Man, just came across this. So it took 7 years ('12-'19) to go up 40%, which seemed so crazy fast at the time, but now, in 9 years, it's gone up 80%.

Our model is hitting $700s now in our neighborhood, from $390k purchased 9/2012. Pretty much Covid allowing Californians to move here and work from home I'm guessing. At this point, I have no doubt we'll be in double territory by the end of next year, which is $780k. I seriously don't see this stopping within 12 months.

We've seen the Floridians and Nebraskans on the street bail and move back home. Good for them, but this former Texan isn't going anywhere! I'll cash out when the kids are out of college

Pretty wild bringing that back up. That was in the initial stages of me interviewing. And now we've been here over two years.

yeh I just went down a rabbit hole for 30 minutes looking back through this thread from page 1 lol.

I can't even keep track of how many people moved here during the course of it. You, thriller, Schall.. god there's probably a few dozen I bet.

I feel like the thread really started to hit its stride around 2014/2015.

We moved here the month before the thread started! First reply was "We just moved here. Work in greenwood plaza, currently live near lone tree, but looking to buy in littleton or south glenn areas, or maybe even a bit north around hampden and university"

Seems like a lifetime ago. It was 3 jobs ago, and man I barely remember really being serious about buying in littleton, southglen or university areas. I mean we looked as houses in those locations, but I feel we always knew we wanted to be a bit further out, with Parker being really high on the list.

I am about a year away from being in one house the longest. I lived in Lafayette, LA from an 5 month old 10 years old. 9.5 years for us in this house is Nov. 2022. I've also been at current job longer than any previous one, 6 years in October. (Wife as well, she just hit 6 last month)

Add in our 2 kids born in this house, and it goes without saying, CO is 100% home for me now.

For me it was a little different. Was born in Houston and lived until 2 years old in Bear Creek area, then moved to NW side of Houston and my parents lived in that house until just after I graduated high school. Since then though - I moved houses each year during A&M years. Moved each year after I graduated college until buying a townhouse and thinking that'd be semi-permanent. Two years later was transferred to Louisiana. Stayed there for 4 years, then moved back near The Woodlands and stayed there for 6. Now that we've been here for just over 2 years, I can't ever see us leaving. One thing I'm not sure of is how the heck my kids are going to afford to live here when they go out on their own in 12-15 years.

Drove from Lakewood to the Huron Peak trailhead yesterday for my 3rd 14er of the 2021 climbing season. CFI has done a great job with the trail and there really isn't any choose your own adventure section to speak of. There is a nice basin about halfway up so there is a little short break from the uphill. The 4WD section to the trailhead is a really fun drive and as long as the driver is comfortable on that type of road most SUVs should be able to make it without scraping the bottom.

Since it was a Tuesday there weren't that many other climbers and the summit area is pretty small so it was nice that only a handful were up there at the same time. Only met one person coming down from the summit on the way up. The views from the top are some of the best from a 14er and I had a really great view towards La Plata Peak, which was the previous 14er I climbed. Only one slightly sketchy part very close to the summit, but not sketchy enough to discourage someone who's made it that far.

I usually am at the top at the same time as a a summit beer drinker and yesterday was the first with someone who smoked a summit joint. There were some mountain goats to be seen and one guy said it was his first time seeing them having now done 18 14ers. I had to battle through a herd on the 1st one I did this season and that wasn't the first time so I'm thinking no sighting must be unusual.

This would be a good first or early 14er for those interested in getting started on this quest. From the 4WD trailhead it's a relatively short roundtrip hike (7 miles) with manageable elevation gain (3 500 ft). The drive time for a day hike is maybe on the high end, but that's due to the significant drop in speed once you hit the first dirt road and then the even bigger drop once you hit the 4WD road.

Hoping to get in one or two more before calling time on the season.

I was at Red Rocks last night for Dwight Yoakam and Old Crow Medicine Show. The music started at 6:30pm and ended at 11pm, all for $60 after fees. One of the best concerts I've been too. Dwight played all his hits, and Old Crow was more entertaining than I could have imagined. Molly Tuttle was amazing as well.

As for traffic, it's surprisingly not bad at all. There are so many different parking lots and roads to get there, and the parking is all free. In addition, it's open early for people to tailgate and socialize. As a result, people come and go in very staggered times, and there are no issues with traffic.

Hands down the best place for live music I've ever been to.

Live Aggie Football in Denver in only 5 days!!!

Tickets with fee are as low as $55 right now. I went with section 533 row 25. From what I can tell that's the visitors side and should have a nice view of the mountains in the background.

I want to do a Texags tailgate, but I'm in Olde Town Arvada and it's hard not to just take the rail to downtown. Parking passes are $30.

Any other Denver Aggies going to this game?

We went ahead and registered for the Texas A&M tailgate just in case. Even though we live up in Erie we'll probably take a Lyft to avoid parking issues.

Our tickets to the game are in section 329.

I've got several friends coming to town for the game and my wife and I are looking at making reservations for 8 on Friday night. Been looking the last week and either places don't take reservations over 4, or places are booked. There are a few I've found that would accept it - Mercantile, ChoLon, Avanti Food & Beverage, Ronin in Congress Park, Venice Ristorante, and The Pig and The Sprout.

We just haven't spent much time around downtown the last two years, any other suggestions? Would be making the reservation today to make sure we have something booked.
