Lived in Houston or Louisiana my entire life. Pretty happy with current situation but have recently become frustrated at work and had an initial discussion with a company in the North Park Hill / Stapleton area. Can anyone give me details on that area?

Stapleton is an interesting area. They turned the old airport into somewhat of a master planned community. Houses are decent sized, but lots are tiny. It's more of an urban suburban area if that makes sense. It is designed to be more walkable with common green spaces and commercial areas within walking distance.

Good schools in the area? We have a 5 and 1 year old.

I need to defer to others on that. I don't know much about the schools in that area. GreatSchools might be a helpful resource, though probably biased to both extremes, as many review sites are these days.

Thanks Thriller, do you live in the area?

We are down south in Highlands Ranch. Offhand, I don't know of anyone on this thread that lives in that area, but I could be wrong.

We are over there relatively frequently though for youth sporting events at Dicks Sportings Goods Park. It's a different feel (not a bad one) from most suburbs - it really is designed to be a walkable area with mixed retail and residential.

Ok thanks
Certainly open to other areas. Since I don't know much about Denver not sure about commute times.

I don't know a ton about the East and North sides of town, and even less about commuting to those areas. There's not a ton east of there, except parts of Aurora and the airport. North of there gets into the industrial part of town in Commerce City.

Having lived in Texas (Houston and then Amarillo) all of my life, I can say we really love it here, especially if you like getting outside.

Stapleton is nice. A lot of young professionals and folks with kids. Denver Public Schools, but it's not like Texas - you can apply to other schools or districts if you want. Have heard really positive things about the magnet schools around that area. (Not that working there means you have to live close by. This isn't Houston traffic.)

But...I didn't move there. When we moved we asked 50 (+/-) people where the best public schools were; 48 said Cherry Creek School District. Plus, I like trees, and bricks, and not having an aggressive HOA.

I accepted a job in Denver and nervous about the move. I currently live in Midland and work in the O&G industry. I have lived in Midland my whole life except when I went to College Station. I know it will be a culture shock but glad to see there will be some good Ags in Denver.

Lots of Ads here, though this thread is a lot less active than it used to be.

Centennial, I have a relative that lives in Boulder. I was going to stay with him a week or 2 and try and find a place to rent.

Centennial is an easy commute from lots of great places for families. Like Thriller, we live in Highlands Ranch and definitely love it. There are also slightly more affordable places to the East that are also very nice.

We lived in Dallas for 10 years after college and have now been here 3.5 years and love it. Welcome!

Castle Rock and Parker would be on my short list. You may even find Larkspur to feel a little more close to home as well.

I will definitely have to drive around and check all of these areas in person before I buy. I will driving up this weekend, it's coming quick. Good to here you love it, I hope for the same.

Just to clarify - you're going to be working FOR Centennial (the company) or IN Centennial (the suburban town)? Big difference.

The company, downtown on 17th street.

Thought that might be the case. You've got the whole metro area to choose from depending on your budget and commuting desires.

Larkspur might be a bit far if you are going downtown, though my wife has a colleague that commuted from Larkspur and another one that commutes from very near the USAFA north of CSprings. They both drive to downtown Denver every day.

Currently contemplating moving to Denver with the family (wife and three small children - elementary age and below). We would be moving from Houston and have lived in the Houston Heights and West University neighborhoods here. We loved the feel of both of these neighborhoods for different reasons (probably prefer West U. a little more as a family). Ideally would send our kids to private school but would consider sending them to well regarded public schools as well. Work would be downtown. Could anybody point us in the right direction on neighborhoods to consider and/or a real estate agent they have had good experiences with?

Hmmm.

Wash Park, Capitol Hill, Cherry Creek might be neighborhoods you might like. Our kids play basketball at local Catholic Schools in the area so we are over there frequently. Neighborhoods surrounding St. Vincent de Paul and Christ the King are the areas I'm talking about.

Estimated boundary roads would be something like East of I-25, South of Colfax. The Western boundary is harder to define as it gets to be a rougher area on that side as you get into Aurora.

Maybe something around the zoo area as well. All older homes similar in feel to the Heights, IMO. All have a fairly quick commute downtown.

Thanks - our kids go to Catholic school here so that would be our preference there as well. Are you familiar at all with the education reputation of any of those schools?

Washington Park looks like a great spot.

Both are good schools. We are a bit further south but have been to both locations many times.

New SCOTUS justice Gorsuch went to grade school at heist the King for whatever that's worth.

It's a neat area with lots of variety in home age, size, and value. Parking can be a problem on some streets.

Good Shepherd is another Catholic school n that area that is solid.

If money ain't no thing, consider St. Mary's Academy and Cherry Hills Village.

Any thoughts on Stapleton? Seems like you get a lot of bang for your buck there and it is close enough to get to various places in 20 minutes or so.

Thanks - missed that. One other request - if anybody has had a good experience with a real estate agent that they would recommend I would appreciate any leads.

Bang for your buck?? We looked at stapleton in 2012 and it was pricey then.. has something changed?

Alta

Well - I don't know what I'm talking about as far as values go. I just started looking. My comment was Wash Park seemed out of our budget for a 4 or 5 bedroom house and Stapleton it seemed like we could get a nice house for our budget.

Well sure, wash park makes most areas seem cheap.. but cherry hills makes wash park seem cheap.

I'd venture to guess stapleton is ~$250/sf. Suburbs can be in the high $100s.
