Thanks Thriller! She is really wanting to find an open position. If that means meeting with someone who may point her in the right direction then she is completely fine with that. Right now she is just applying online but does not have any contacts within the district. Really anything at this point is better than the position she is in. I really appreciate all your help and efforts with this!

What's the current pulse of the city? Growing too fast? Real estate still exploding?

What's the situation on weekends getting out to ski, traffic wise?

Okay, here's what she had to say. There's no magic sauce in the district that she's aware of. She says it is almost entirely digital and that positions will start popping up in Feb/Mar. She suggested calling the principal of a school directly.

Growing too fast?
Yes. Much like Austin. Tons of people moving there and locals hate it. But Denver has better infrastructure.

Real estate still exploding?
Likely. Though I haven't followed it too closely as of late.

I-70 on a Friday afternoon or Saturday morning is hell. Mainly because it's pretty much the only vein into the mountains and they can't expand it. Go on a weekday if at all possible.

As someone relocating there, the real estate market is very seller friendly.

I'd sell to realize gains but then I'd only be paying to realize the next guy's gains on the new house.

We moved about 3 years ago and the market was hot and our home value has gone up at least 100k. Neighbor sold last fall for 100k more than we bought for and it was basically the same house from the mid 90s. Crazyness.

yeh we bought new build in fall of 2012 and our neighbor who bought then as well sold sold in summer of 2016 for $550k, their purchase price was about 410k.

We are in at 390k and easily have $150k in appreciation.

But yeh, not gonna realize those gains anytime soon.

It's in the ballpark so I figured I would ask -

Anyone have any thoughts on Pueblo? Looking at a position downtown and would be living in the area.

No es la mejor ciudad del estado, pero an est cerca de las montanas y de todas las aventuras al aire libre que Colorado tiene para ofrecer.

I live in Colorado Springs now but work with customers in pueblo. All of them that live in the area are in pueblo west. They usually go out of their way to clarify that when i ask them what area they live in. Seems like the locals don't want to live in pueblo itself.

For those in the region - any suggestions as to a bank relationship (mortgage)? Banks to look for, banks to avoid etc..

I may be biased, but FirstBank is great. Big enough but local and lots of branches. Loan Officers are local too. I had a super easy close when using them.

Curious if any posters on here work for Noble Energy. I am interested in in the Crude Marketing Rep opening here in Denver and would really appreciate any insight regarding the position.

We were coworkers about 6 years ago (we only crossed paths at work a few times, enough to find out we were both Ags), but she's currently at Noble.

I have no idea if she's on texags though. Up to you if you want to contact her cold I guess.

My wife just matched to a medical residency in Denver! We will be moving to the Stapleton area in early June and really hope to meet some Denver Aggies!

I'm probably going down there around April 4-8. Looking at some apartments and hopefully sign a lease to start in May. Gotta get the hell out of Montana and into a city with more opportunities.

Green2Maroon - I live very near those apartments. My family and I enjoy the area a lot. We moved here in December.

And yes - rent is crazy. Everywhere.

Planning to move to Colorado in a few months. Right now interviewing for a job in Colorado Springs. I've interviewed also in Denver, but no luck so far.

I work in recruiting, technical and non-technical. Any Ags know of job leads in this area?

Looks like it has been a few months since some posts.

My wife and I are considering a move to the Denver area with our 1.5 year old. What are current thoughts about the area? everything i read shows housing is continuing to climb which scares me a little coming from DFW.

We are native Texans and have no ties to Denver, we just want to do something different for a few years. We are flexible on timing and location, but really want to be in a good family suburb with good schools. i would like just transfer with my current employer and have to work downtown.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Seems like the southern suburbs may fit the best? would like to be the $350-$450k home prices.

I'm partial to areas SW, S, and SE of town. Suburbs of Parker, Lone, Tree, Highlands Ranch, Littleton, Centennial would be good places to start with good school reputations.

House prices have been on an insane tear. We saw a small plateau in prices a year or so ago, but they just keep going higher. Our home in Highlands Ranch has appreciated by almost 1/3 in just the last couple of years. In the upper end of your price range you should be able to find something, though it won't buy you nearly the house that it would in Texas.

This is a great place to live with lots of activities for the whole family all year round. While most people think of Denver as being in the mountains, we are really in the arid high plain type environment. 300 days of sunshine a year. If it snows in the winter, it's not uncommon to be able to play golf or get outdoors with no snow that same afternoon. We'll get a handful of snows a year where it stays around for a couple of days or so, but those are the exceptions.

We moved here in 2014 and could not be happier. Good luck!

Thriller, thanks for the reply.

Your response seems in line with my thinking and what reading/research I have done. The hardest part for me is leaving behind family, since my entire family is in DFW/Austin. But i think its one of those things that once we do it and get through the moving pains it would be great for us.

We moved from Houston 3.5 years ago with no ties to Colorado. My parents live in Dallas. The key is to just start getting involved in stuff to make new friends. Flight from Denver to DFW can get stupid cheap if you keep an eye on them and it's a short flight.

I don't live in Denver (we are a couple hours West) but I've found way lower property taxes and homeowner but way higher housing costs, vehicle registration (this one was a surprise to me) and state income tax but overall it's not that much of a net difference and we find the lifestyle here much better for the family.

Good luck!

We moved in 2015 from Dallas - if you look back a lot of pages you'll find questions I asked Thriller about commute from Highlands Ranch.

If I tried to move back to Texas my wife would have me just send postcards with an update on my status, she is not at all interested in moving back even though all family is in either Dallas or San Antonio.

We have small kids and find the area to be very family friendly- we love to be outside even if it's simply playing out back and eating on the porch. It isn't all extreme sports.

We moved here in oct of 2015. Rented in HR for awhile and then bought in Castle Rock. Farther south than I thought we'd go, but we dig the community and small town feel in places.

That said, i love the Southern side in general for families. HR, Littleton, CR, parker, etc...all our friends are down here. One thing that really helped with networking is that the wife joined MOPS. She knows half the city through that outfit. I recommend it if you have little kids. It can be hit or miss, but it worked out great for us.
