90% sure I'm headed to a basin on Wed if anyone wants to go. Should have a couple runs open and less crowds hopefully.

Copper is opening tomorrow with free skiing, but with only 2 runs, I'm not fighting the storm to get up there

Skiing was pretty darn good at a basin this morning. They should be getting more runs open with that nice storm

How much snow did y'all get up there? Got probably 15" or so down here in the springs. Had 3-4 ft drifts against my garage. Neighbor across the street had a drift as high as the back of his truck. This was the worst storm I've seen since moving here in 2013

It wasn't all that bad in Denver. Felt just like a typical snowfall.

14-16 inches in Highlands Ranch just north of Daniels Park

Entire driveway was a solid foot, 18" in some places. Backyard drifts were 2-3'.

In Parker. Wife and I both had snow days. Chili just finishing up in the crockpot

Yeh took a while but I made the switch into commercial construction. Work for a local G.C. who specializes in concrete tilt up construction, large warehouse and retail. (Like100k-700k sq ft size.) They've been around for 50 years and had more than 50% market share for several decades.

I feel lucky to have found them. They are putting me onsite daily for 6 months to get acclimated to the industry, so they are really spending some time and money on me. I'll be an estimator, which was a portion of my role in O&G.

Salary was a sizable cut, but a healthy bonus (10-20%, but they've given out 40% in some years), fixed 15% profit sharing into a tax deferred fund (in lieu of 401k), and a $750/mo. vehicle and cell allowance make up for it, bringing total compensation to only about a 10% cut.

And he said once I'm an experienced estimator, my previous O&G salary will easily beat. So it sounds like it will pay well in the long run. They've never laid off an estimator during slow times, so that's assuring.

Good to hear!

Keep me in mind for any safety positions they might have or that you hear of.

Cuts will begin next spring for my group, and want to start putting feelers out.

Afternoon everyone!

This thread is quite lively! I've been following it for awhile and waited to post until I knew what was happening but I can safely say I'm about to accept a job offer in Denver. With that said - I am pretty familiar with the area, however right now I'm having a bit of a struggle finding a place to live.

I am looking to rent for a year and then buy after being up there for a bit. I've been using Zillow/padmapper etc, and there seems to be a ton of junk and I was wondering if anyone knew of any better places/resources to go than those sites.

I'm looking for something in/near downtown with at least 2 bedrooms, a backyard and allows dogs. My max is about $2300/month. I'm not afraid of townhomes/apartments either.

Basically if someone could point me in a good direction to find a place that would be awesome!

You may have trouble finding a place downtown with a backyard. But Denver is a very dog-friendly city so you probably won't have problems there. There are lots of options for you downtown for 2bd in your price range. I'd also suggest checking out LoHi. Not sure what it's like there but I've heard good things. I'd love to live in LoHi once I can afford it.

Cap Hill may be good for what you're looking for- but it is definitely older than downtown and not quite as nice. But it's very centrally located which is nice.

I'd also suggest Wash Park- used to live there and loved it. Great neighborhood and fits your criteria pretty well. Downside is it's slightly further from downtown (15 minutes-ish) and you'd probably be better off finding a house there than an apartment.

Its a startup out in Lakewood. I will be doing software development. Should be a bit crazy but fun!

Yeah, it basically boils down to something with a backyard in LoHi or over by the Zoo or downtown near LoDo in one of the pet friendly apt complexes.

I was kind of hoping that maybe some folks in this thread might have some rental properties or connections because I've had really good luck getting connected with landlords through TexAgs in the past.

Regardless I'm super pumped to get up there!

You may post something similar on Denver A&M Club Facebook page. Seems to be a lot of real estate Ags in town that may know of something.

Long time Texan lurker. Does anyone have any real estate connections or referrals? Wife and I may try to plan a trip to Colorado this coming spring with the idea of intentionally looking at Denver and CO Springs as future destinations for the family. We love it there in general and always talk the talk, but I'd like to make a trip and actually meet with a professional to talk neighborhoods, schools, etc. Get a feel for real world, day to day type stuff. FWIW we are miserable in Houston

I've got a fantastic RE agent that we've used and I've referred to others on here who used her help to find a house.

Let me know.

I used Dave Kaercher here in the springs when I was looking before I built. I had been refereed to him by someone here on Texags as well. I liked him a lot and he seemed quite knowledgeable.

Just got into a MS program at CU... anything I need to know about Boulder? Is it worth reading back in the thread for anything on it?

Boulder is an amazing town. Here's what to expect-

- it is gorgeous. More scenic than Denver due to it being in the foothills. you can pretty much walk to some great hiking trails
- Lots to do there. Pearl street is really cool and there's always stuff going on with the university
- It definitely lives up to its reputation of being a hippie town. if that's not your thing, be warned.
- It is very expensive- much more so than Denver. If that's an issue I'd look into living in Broomfield or Louisville
- if you ever need to hit the city, Denver is a short 30 minutes away

Is it dramatically worse than Austin? I grew up there so I don't think it will be the end of the world.

This was the first thing I noticed and am not thrilled about, but my program is only a year long so I think it makes the most sense to sack up and pay for a year. I assume I'll want to be near the university since I'm not bringing a SO or anything with me.

Never realized 25 and sun was the perfect bbq weather. Beer in snow, no flies or mosquitoes, and the meat stays chilled until it's ready for the heat.

I'm looking for excuses to stay out here.
