So how are you transplants holding up with the weather? I always eyeball it when I see lots of snow and low temps wondering if can truly hack it without being miserable.
First winter here, and I really cannot complain. I love having all four seasons. I was ready for summer to end so I could ski, and now I'm ready for winter to end so I can climb mountains again. Always something amazing and fun to do no matter the season.

In all seriousness, I just got back from the CT/NY area and that place would be terrible to live in winter. A lot of our snow drops in a day or two, and then the temps warm, the sun comes out and it all melts away. You cannot beat living in this beautiful state and still having some big city amenities and job access in the Denver metro area. I would never even consider moving back to Texas.

I'll say the 15 degrees today really doesn't feel all that bad, unless the wind is blowing.

I'd love to move out here.....just have to find a job and convince the wife.

Yep. It's easy to stay warm if you dress right. I wore a sweater, north face jacket, scarf, gloves, wool hat, and Sorel boots today....and it felt pretty good to be outside.

Does anyone have the Epic Local season pass? I am debating where to get a season pass for next season while they are offering discounts. I thought about Loveland too since it is so close and not a lot of crowds even on weekends.

I kind of like the flexibility of of the multiple resorts but not a fan of crowds. Guess I always have a basin.

I have one. I imagine multiple in this thread do as well. It really depends on how many days you make it up. If you only go a handful of times, getting a 4 pack towards the end of summer/early fall to abasin or Keystone could be the way to go. I think they're only like $225 or something, but I'm really not sure as I've never bought one. I will say that getting out to Vail and Beaver is really nice though as they are usually less crowded and really have some great terrain if you know where to go. Plus Vail is twice the size of any other mountain pretty much. The drive really only ends up being like 20 min or so.

I'll be able to make it up quite a bit, especially if I do half days. That's what kinda makes me lean toward Loveland, I can be home in 45-50 min easy.

But I really like brek/keystone/a basin too. First world problems.

I'd probably go with Epic Local. Relative to Loveland: A-Basin is an extra 12 -15 minutes up the 6 Pass; Keystone is 15-20 minutes up 70; Breck is 25-30 minutes more; Vail and Beaver are 45-50 more.

Loveland is a pretty good mountain. but there's not much to it.

Vail.. Less crowded? Haha.

If you go weekdays you don't have to worry about crowds. The beauty of living here. Copper 4 pack is like $150.

Definitely. I've skied Vail & Breck on the same day or on consecutive days 3 times..... and Vail has always been a lot less crowded.

Agree with proudaggie. Breck gets more visitors and the mountain layout doesn't help spread people out as much ... although it's much better in the last 10 years with the Peak 7 and Peak 6 expansions.

Vail is so big ... it's OK as long as you know where to go. Mid-Vail can be a nightmare, but ski other areas, depending on your ability, and you'll hardly have lift lines, even on the frontside.

Even Vail can be a nightmare, even if you know where to go. Less of a nightmare, but still a night mare.

I am switching to Winter Park next season. Keystone and A-basin just didn't get good snow (they average in the 250"/yr range, but I'll bet it was way lower this season). Breck was fun this year, as they had great snow, but I found myself driving out to Keystone on multiple occasions this Feb/Mar as the bus line was 25 minutes long and the lift lines about the same. To be honest, if you're a good technical skier and love trees, go for Winter Park and ski the Mary Jane side.

Who knows I may just buy RMSP and Epic Local haha. Like you said #firstworldprobs

Squadron ski trip was at keystone last Friday. They had gotten 3-6" the night before but once the fresh stuff was worked down it was pretty much all ice til it warmed up and all turned to slush. Skied copper the next day and it was night and day difference in snow quality.

Yeah, Key is pretty bare in the moguls and the trees unless you go out the day after some fresh pow. I like The Outback, but it just hasn't been great for most of the season. Glad you got some good skiing in at least.

I just go by my aunt and uncle who ski vail 15-20 weekends a season and they complain there are always lines. They start at lift open and ski half days pretty much.

It depends on the day. I live in Eagle and go skiing all the time. I went to Beaver Creek today and it was packed. I have a friend who teaches at Vail and he said it was empty today.

Interesting. I went to Beaver Creek today too and didn't realize that was considered packed. It was my first time there, so I have nothing to compare it to, other than comparing it to other mountains. I didn't wait in a single line and only at the very end of the day did I feel like there were enough skiers around me that I really needed to pay attention to people around me. I skied lots of runs without any other skiers around. I really liked it and will definitely go back sometime.

I'll caveat what I said; non-holiday weekdays are empty just about everywhere. The couple times I've been anyway. I went to keystone on a thursday once and got in 25 lifts/30K' + by 2pm.

Nice day. The main reason I like Keystone tbh. It's like damn near impossible to get 30k at Breck. Biggest lift is Kensho I think and it's only 1.4k vert or so.

yeh 30k is only possible probably on a weekday. I don't know you could do it with any sort of lines. I was never behind 1 person that entire day, and by 2pm I was beat. Was back home by 4.

I was actually in Beaver a few weeks ago on a Saturday and got about 20k' in from 9:30-2:00. That was during a solid powder day as well so I was pretty worn out. I then went down to Keystone and did some night skiing for like an hour and a half. I haven't been able to make it up all that much this year, so the break was pretty helpful on the legs. Ended up with about 32k' I believe. Really helps that it only takes 6-7 runs at Keystone to be able and put 10k' away in a hurry.

But that was including night skiing. 30k' with no break is definitely tiring. Just gotta keep pushing it. I do too many tree runs in Beaver usually to be able to register any serious vertical.

You could probably get to 30k pretty quick skiing the 3 minute lift at the bottom of A-Basin. I used to do that on Friday afternoons a lot . I could make it down in 80-90 seconds if I pushed it & get in 10+ runs per hour....and then mix in a few trips to the back bowl.

God you guys are making me wish I was not in Connecticut on business right now. I'm missing the end of the season! At least I got over 30 days in with this year being my first season living in Colorado. Not going to lie, I'm ready to get some summits in. Any of the rest of you crazy *******s enjoy 13ers/14ers?

I can't believe it takes you 80-90 seconds to get down the Molly Hogan lift. It's only like a hundred yards long.

Got my Epic local pass for next year. They had a good promo running that if you turned in your ticket at the end of the day and paid in full, you got that lift ticket price applied to the pass. Since I was skiing anyway at Keystone it is one trip closer to paying for itself. I'm already looking forward to next season.

Cool. We bought our epic passes last week.

If you have kids they announced the epic kids pass for Colorado residents yesterday or the day before. You get four days at four resorts (16 days total) for kids in K-5.

I'm at a crossroads. Keep my Epic Local or go with RMSP+. Oh the decisions we have to make...
