Is it normal that flights from Denver in February and March to Florida go for $600-700 instead of $250-300? I get spring break and all, but we were trying to visit family then and getting sticker shock.
Never gone then, but we flew to FLL in June for about $90 going and $150 coming back.

We're flying in July this year to MCO, we'll see.

What destination and airline you looking at?

Looked at MCO and FLL because I'd already be there for work. Sister lives just outside of Orlando. Looked at United and SW so far and 4 different weeks. Not on weekends either.
As a comparison my full round trip in early February that i booked last month was only $210 total to FLL on SW. crazy that it's more than double that now.

spring break is the prime ski season, so flights during the month of March are usually really high. Also probably doesn't help booking Florida (another spring break destination).

spirit has $50-$70 flights to and from mco and fll for most of february and march.

frontier has flights as low as $29, but most are $40-$60 for feb./march to MCO

Sometimes you get what you pay for. I've never flown spirit or frontier but I've heard they both are pretty terrible.

It's not like United is a 2020 cadillac and Frontier is a 1985 geo metro. They don't differ that much. You're flying a few hours domestically.. price is pretty much the main factor. Compare bottom line though, as spirit/frontier pricing is a la carte.

I fly all 4 of those regularly, and I've had delays with all of them, and good experiences with all of them. If there is a big price difference, that is drives my decision.

We fly Frontier regularly and like it well enough. I flew Spirit once and will never do so again.

Moved to the Denver area in December, finally settling down in the Arvada area. Loving it so far. Spent 7 months in Calgary, but had to move due to a bad job market and limited contracts. Love the Rockies and Denver hasn't disappointed.

Grizzy Rose feels like home and I'm 30 min from the Rockies. Can life get better? I submit that it cannot!

I really like Arvada too. I moved here from Montana for similar reasons, terrible job market and no opportunities.

One of my go-tos so far is Yak N Yeti in Old Town Arvada. Excellent Napalese cuisine and beers brewed in house with Himalayan inspiration.

A pleasant surprise for fun downtown was Urban Golf.

Old Towne Arvada I'd definitely a neat area.

Eric Fitch with Kentwood Real Estate was ours when we relocated here. We ended up in Lakewood very close to Morrison after looking at various areas all over Denver and love it. Eric also lives in Morrison and is very familiar with the area. His website and information is: http://www.denverrealestate.com/our_brokers/info/efitch/

Anybody on this thread live in Castle Pines? I'd like to know a little more about getting in/out of the area in bad weather.

We live about as close as you can get to Castle Pines and still be in Highlands Ranch. Which part of CP are you looking at?

Bad weather that actually impacts travel is fairly rare, averaging maybe a handful of times per year. Places like Castle Pines and other areas of Douglas County are pretty good about getting plows to the main roadways quickly. You'll be able to use Monarch and Castle Pines Parkway pretty easily unless it's the absolute worst days (think the bomb cyclone last March). But on those days, the entire metro area is shut down, so it's nothing different than the rest of the region.

The individual neighborhood streets are down the list of places to get plowed, but that's standard everywhere. I-25 can occasionally see temporary closures with snow and high wind, but CDOT does a good job of getting them back up and running quickly.

We love the area and are actively looking that direction, for our next house if we decide to move. Specially we are looking off of Happy Canyon.

Let me know if you've got more questions. We love it here.

Thank you! We're looking in the Village of Castle Pines/right along N Daniels Park Rd. I'm a little concerned about getting in/out of the neighborhood because of topography. The agent I'm in contact with says the neighborhood streets are plowed quickly, but she also really wants to sell the house.

I work in mainly southern Denver, so I'm grateful that I25 seems to almost always be navigable in the snow. We live in downtown Denver right now, so there's not many big hills to slide down... much different than CP!

Gotcha. I was mistakenly approaching it from the "new to Denver" perspective. Since you've been here, you already know the basics.

We are literally on the other end of Daniels Park Road in HR. We don't have quite the hills that you see just a few miles to the south in CP, but I can't imagine it would be that different. Our biggest problem is a north facing driveway (never again!!!!).

Unless you have a particularly steep driveway or a street/section of streets that is steeper than normal, I would think you would be fine except for times of heavy ice/snow.

If you get a chance, try and drive it tomorrow night/Tuesday morning. They are predicting 3-6/4-8 last I checked the forecast. That should give you a good idea. If you can't make it down this way, let me know and I'll try to get some info for you on Tuesday. I'll be teaching Monday so I won't be able to get there in the daytime, but the full extent of the snow won't be there until sometime Tuesday anyway.

The road out is crazy steep... which has me nervous. Thanks you for the input! I didn't think about driving driving down there tomorrow!

I live near Hess and 25. I do have to throw on my 4wd now and again to get down our street or even up my driveway. It's not that steep, but we don't get plowed until like 8" (Parker) so a truck with empty bed moves all around on those roads.

Hope everyone enjoyed the 75 degree weather out there today. It sure was nice getting the kids out to the park this weekend and then we just got back from a neighborhood super bowl party out on the street. That probably wouldn't be so comfortable tomorrow.

I just drove down to Littleton and saw several restaurants open with people dining inside them. I wonder how many people will go against the order.
