All the natives that live here up north are upset a chain from Texas is coming in, haha. I did find it odd placement, as I figured they would have found room south of town for the first location.
Not super convenient for us, but only about 25 minutes away. Hopefully owners of other convenience stores hear about the clean bathrooms…

Its about 45min away from me and you best believe my ass is driving it. I only return to TX about 2x a year. Every day I miss HEB. So give me Bucees and I have a piece of home.

I don't get it.

My mom just had to bring me, wife and kids to bucees on 290 not far from their house.

Honestly I couldn't wait to leave. It didn't help that I was watching the employees making the pulled pork sandwiches. One lady was clearly sick, and I saw her sniff/snort up her phlegm, but unsuccessfully; a goop of it fell down on the counter next to her wrapping up a sandwich.
I was utterly disgusted.

It all seems like junk to me, and I will never touch the food after that visual, and the packaged food seems like overpriced junk, like any convenience store. Mixed nuts, trail mix, etc.

Yes. Was something supposed to happen in there that keeps people coming back?

I guess if that didn't impress you then maybe Bucees isn't for you. You must not have grown up stopping at Allsups.

Yes they are clean.. but I didn't think any more than a quik trip or maverick. Is that impression supposed to keep bringing me back time and time again?

This company isn't building 100ksf gas stations that fill to the brim with customers (many of them from the local area) because the restrooms are clean. My mom didn't take us to bucee's because she thought we needed to use the restroom. We didn't even go there for gas. She has jumped on the bandwagon.

That is what I don't get.

A larger variety of crap to waste your money on

Are we driving an hour out of our way to go there? Hell no. But it's an obvious upgrade from the usual gas station.

That would have grossed me out too. I, personally, like their packaged foods. They're inexpensive and 9/10 times taste amazing! Its like HEBs Hill Country brand.

The amount of people in a store is stupid and off putting. But if I can go and look at their cute decor and food stuff in the middle of a long drive, its nice.

Its not the end all, be all of stores, but I enjoy what they offer.

My only complaint with Bucees would be the beverage selection is odd to me. They seem to have their own brands or some odd agreements. Last time I was in the one in Bastrop they did not have any Gatorade or Topo.

But at the same time they seem to have some mysterious way to break the laws of thermodynamics because the beer from their cooler couldn't possibly be that cold without freezing.

Curious which one on 290 you went to. The two are not created equal. Personally I do stop because of the clean bathrooms. However, now that we've moved out of Texas - traveling on 45 we mostly stop at Woodys in Centerville because of how packed the Madisonville Buccees is. They also pay extremely well for the small towns they're located in.

Well this is exciting.. for me and my family anyway!

My parents are officially moving to Denver, after 25 years in Houston, and after 12 years of us being here.

They signed and executed a 6 month lease on a little 3/2 attached home in Eagle heritage bend (where my dad's sister lives, and the only neighborhood that was in consideration)
Lease starts 2/1, but they won't get here until later in feb when the moving truck is scheduled.

They both only want a house on the golf course (currently live on a lake, so the desire of no neighbors behind them remains very strong)
They lost out on a few houses that went on the market because, well they don't live here and even when flying here within a week, they were going pretty fast still back in the fall.

So they finally decided, let's just rent for 6 months, sell the houston house in March so my dad doesn't have to worry about bridge loans and all that mess (it's paid off and worth quite a bit more than what they'll buy here), then they can pounce right away on whatever house comes on the market that they want.

Nice!

I know you said only this neighborhood was considered, but there's some other nice ones around depending on price range. A couple I can think of are Westwoods in west arvada/golden area, and Colorado national golf club up in Erie. They're not cherry hills but imagine still pricey. Maybe something they can look into after moving here to see if they like the areas. Best of luck to them!

Well it all has to do with my aunt, she's been in HEB for 10 years and as a major social bug and retired for all of those 10, she knows a ton of her neighbors, and plays golf 80-100 times a year. My parents have visited many times throughout the last decade, so, for not living in HEB, they know a lot of people in the community as well. They've even vacationed with some of them. The last couple trips after considering moving here, my dad played golf/had drinks with my uncle and few of the neighbors, mom played pickelball with aunt and friends, etc.. and found they connected with everyone really easily. So they got to kind of 'try it out' if you will. Basically, they already kind of feel apart of the community

It's also 55+.

So it's a pretty hard no anywhere outside of HEB boundaries. My mom and my dad's sister are pretty much like sisters, they are really close. So they want to be a golf cart ride away from each other no doubt.

My dad also has a sister in Vail, and they were already strongly considering buying in HEB; now with my parents on board, that will likely happen. They've been in Vail for 10 years after littleton for 20;, they are ready to be back in Denver since skiing isn't the best retirement aged activity lol.

That puts 3 of the siblings together in HEB, and even another sister lives in centennial.

For the time in our life as parents (9 years now), we'll have grandma and grandpa close by to watch the kids play sports, maybe the random pick them up from school, or kids sleep over so we can go out..

Plus there's a pool in HEB so we'll have access to that!

Now I see only -3!

Must depend on what service you're using, I'm not seeing that for Parker at all.

Rooting against it as well (sorry to be a downer, maybe it will snow where you live haha). Leaving the house will suck with those temps as it is, don't need to add ice for multiple days.

Apple weather app (which I guess is no longer powered by the weather channel?) shows nothing. Weather channel shows 50% tonight, sub 20% next 2 days. Accuweather shows 55% Sunday, sub 25% tonight and tomorrow.

Oh god delete Apple weather. That is the biggest pos!

All I know is our damn fridge is creating ice back behind the fridge wall, which in turn makes an obnoxious loud noise when the fan kicks on. It did this once before many years ago. In a nutshell we have to turn it off and let it defrost;

To relate to the conversation; it's plenty cold enough outside per all the apps to put all our freezer food in some coolers and leave it outside for a few days!

No apps work well for this area unless you're strictly following the current weather. I follow Seth's Weather Page and Denver & Front Range Weather on FB for any forecasting.

We always joke about Texas weather and how it changes so fast, here it changes fast but it's also extremely difficult to predict. I'm a big weather watcher, I'll check the weather at least 10 times a day. 50 times if there's a chance of snow. If I had to summarize Colorado weather in one statement, "Every day of the year, there's a 30% chance of SOMETHING happening after 3 pm."

My favorite part is watching it predict "the snow is ending at 9, the snow is ending at 9:45. Expect the snow to stop around 12. Snow expected to end at 12:15. Snow continuing for the next several hours. Snow ending at 11."
