Ha. Sooner, if your brisket is as good as advertised on here I will definitely be trying to get my hands on some if we move up there. So sure, you can "cure" her.

She's good though...just does it bc it helps some health issues she has.

Just so nobody thinks I'm a swinging bi-sechsual...the "brisket" we are all speaking of...

In other news, what's the sentiment on the 4 gun control bills that the House passed today? Think they'll make it all the way through?

I have no idea. I care a lot less about politics since I moved to Colorado. It's a moderate state, and I honestly feel immune from most issues/problems compared to when I lived in Texas.
dbtexasag05

Proud and usually agree on Politics but I think I disagree with his statement.

My wife has lived her since she was born and she is very concerned with the movement of the politics in the state. I agree with her and think colorado is no longer leaning left it has fallen over.

You will notice most of the left is pretty loud about their positions and a good population of those left leaning folks live in boulder. I was somewhat surprised at the number of Romney signs throughout the city but it still did no good.

Legalized weed? Yep
Startling new gun laws? Yep. But you have to realize with the gun laws that two of the nations worst massacres were here in Denver. Columbine and the Aurora movie theater shooting. Hell they just arrested some kid in my area of town that hasn't the chance yet.

All that being said, it is Colorado man and people come here for the weather, the activities, and the fresh air. Politics is a side bar to life.

Yeah, I tend to agree (from afar) with you Dbt about Colorado moving more and more left. But even with the laws that have passed, many have been fairly moderate versions of them (15 round limit vs 10 or 7, etc). I do have a problem with the potential anti-business effects of the mag limit bill but at least they can say they tried to keep Magpul (my personal beliefs on this issue aside).

At the end of the day it doesn't really bother or affect me too much, but just something I've been thinking about since the Denver Post has been talking about it so much. As you noted, the benefits are worth it and politics aren't something I get too worked up about anyway. However, If Colorado goes full retard like California I will likely change my tune.

Does anyone have thoughts on the new corridor? Broomfield , Louisville, Lafayette, Or northern Arvada? What about the Stapleton side of town?
dbtexasag05
How long do you want to ignore this user?
What kind of thoughts?

Living? Work? Demographics? Whether or not your chances of being shot go up?

I'm looking for all of it. I'm in the process of opening a specialty dental practice. There are a few areas where the demographics work out. I've looked at numbers, and visited several times to get my perceptions, but I'd like to hear what the opinions of locals are.

Right now the demographics of Stapleton slightly favor that area, but I'd rather raise my family up near the mountains. I do not plan to commute a long distance. The southern half of Denver is saturated for my profession.

I live next to Stapleton in Park Hill. It's a great area with lots of Denver at your fingertips...the Zoo and most museums are just minutes away. Stapleton has a great town center that hosts a fairly large farmers market on Sundays in the summer. There are movie nights on the lawn and even a beer festival in the fall.

The mountains, while accessible, are about 20 mins further than some of the other neighborhoods you listed. I have friends that live in the neighborhoods you listed and also really like it there. They end up spending more time in Boulder than they do in Denver since it's a smaller community and closer or equidistant.

What Sooner said. My wife is ready to downsize and get closer to downtown and Sooner and I basically just had this conversation.

The I36 corridor is really growing, and I don't spend much time up there but I think the current construction is a real pain to get around.

I also wouldn't consider Boulder to be closer to the mountains. It is actually much tougher IMO to get onto a road that gets you where you want to go. I like the Stapleton area and as Sooner said, tons to do.

I guess my definition of the mountains is not just the ski areas, but being able to go run and hike the trails after work or on Saturday morning.

My only friends up there live in Park Hill as well, so I realize that can be a nice area.

DB: Where do you live now?

Thansk for the input.

There is a nice greenbelt but not anything like what the foothills has to offer. If that's really your desire, I'd say look somewhere more NW.

It's a bit further from Denver but I really like the Longmont area. You're right next Boulder, not too far from RMNP, have some great golf close by, and is definitely a growing suburb.

If you like beer, there are some great breweries in/near Longmont: Oskar Blues, Left Hand, and within 15-20 minutes of Upslope, Avery, Twisted Pine, and several more.

I live in Highlands Ranch. Very close to the mountains as well as access to I70.

Agree with Longmont being a great area, but for business / no commute reasons the areas I mentioned appear best.

My criteria are business opportunity, schools, proximity to mountains and healthy living lifestyle, and maybe gut feeling.

Endo,

What kind of housing budget are you going to have? What kind of space are you looking for?
Endo Ag

We'll be renting up front. That is a small concern compared to just picking the right spot for the business. Both areas are places I'd be comfortable raising a family. Stapleton was a concern regarding schools, but I saw that there is approved funding for a Stapleton High School to be built imminently. My kids are young enough that the school situation should be sorted out by the time we get there. The NW corridor is full of good schools and neighborhoods.

Reading through the thread I saw lots of opinions about downtown and the southern half, but was looking for opinions on Broomfield and / or Stapleton.

Thanks for the advice.

wife and I considered louisville and longmont when we came and visited a couple years ago. It just seemed too isolated to me. This was 2009. Of course we drove up there from littleton, through golden, then up 93, and there's nothing out there, so that gave us the feeling of isolation. Now that I live here, I see that if we came up 25 we may have not felt that way. Well for louisville anyway.. longmont is def. pretty far out there, even by Houston sprawl standards.

We settled on Parker.. it's an old cow town it seems, like Tomball where we moved from, but still just 20 miles from downtown.
I don't care much about distance to the mountains.. when I'm going skiing, 90 miles compared to 70 is not that big of a deal to me.
For a quick weekend hike or whatnot.. hell they're close enough.

I think he's wanting more of a get off work and go hiking or mtn biking situation, 62. In that case, proximity to the hills does matter.

yeh i can see that.. but hell down here by parker/lone tree there is the bluffs. It's not 'mountains', but it's a great 3 mile walk/ride that has a couple hundred feet elevation gain. And anywhere around 470 on the westside you're just a couple minutes from red rocks.

I guess I don't consider a good week day hike or ride having to be deep in the mountains.

Thanks for the update guys. I appreciate the perspective.

I'm really not looking for new neighborhoods to consider, as the business is driving that decision. I'm just looking for local perspective on the areas mentioned.

If anyone else wants to jump in, I'd love as many views as possible.

My jeep is in the shop and I need to get to DIA on Monday and don't want to burden any of my friends. Is super shuttle the cheapest option or is there another company out there?

TIA

That is probably your best bet. Even a limo service would it for probably 50 bucks. What part of town do you live in?

Also, tried a new restaurant tonight Cafe Bar. Fantastic!

Anyone know any contacts in Civil Engineering in the Denver area? Specifically, ones that might be hiring an EIT? My wife and I currently live in DFW, but have always been interested in a move to Colorado.

I guess I will try this here.

I have a job offer in Denver. Office is in Aurora near the Cherry Creek Reservoir. Any thoughts on where to live close to that would be appreciated. I don't want more than a 30 minute commute, and the closer the better, but I know nothing about the neighborhood.

Single with a middle income. I would probably rent for at least the 1st year.
