Skiing.
Snow skiing is absolute crap in New Mexico. Why wouldn't you just go the extra mile to Colorado for some real skiing? I'm sure there's about a billion more lakes in Louisiana to go water skiing in, so thats a wash.
Gambling.
Uh, have you ever even been to Louisiana?
Non-hot/humid weather.
Because the desert isn't hot at all.
However if you hate trees (or anything green other than cactus), are in the market for some beautiful turquoise jewelry or handcrafted Indian trinkets (aka crap), or have a insatiable appetite for low-rider vehicles and culture, you can have your fill in New Mexico.
BTW, the stucco houses filled with southwestern Indian decorations are truly architectural masterpieces. No really, they are. I mean it... Apparently brick masonry technology has not reached the desert southwest yet.
Good luck New Mexico, we're all pulling for you.
