My husband & I are going to Costa Rica in late March and staying at the Tabacon Thermal Resort. We are flying into the Liberia Airport. We still need to book a place to stay the night we land (the resort was booked that night).

Hotel recommendations between Liberia and Tabacon Resort?
Places to eat in the Tabacon area?
Must do activities? We are active and love to hike/raft etc
Can we do hikes on our own or do we have to use a guide service?
Is renting a car a good idea?

Thanks!

Our go to when landing in Liberia is to go to Playa Conchal. It is about 45 minutes away, but it is one of our favorite beaches in Costa Rica. It is probably in the opposite direction of La Fortuna though, but it is a good first night experience.

When we have gone to La Fortuna, there is never a shortage of things to do. There are guided tours and there are some things that you can do on your own. La Fortuna waterfall is pretty neat, and we are hoping to do some white water rafting on our next trip. Rio Celeste is a small drive and something that we are wanting to add to our trip there in April.

We usually stay in the town of La Fortuna and there is no shortage of restaurants and some sodas as well.

Enjoy the trip. Pura Vida.

We are headed to Playa Conchal 1/12 and staying in a townhome on the Reserva. Any food recommendations or things to not miss? Already doing a catamaran cruise and a waterfall tour.

Probably the main thing for there is to make sure you hit the right beach. Brasilito is the first one you come to, and you basically have to walk over the cliff to go to playa Conchal.

As far as food there, nothing stood out as amazing and nothing was bad either. I think it was Patagonia that was the better choice. There are other places there on the brasilito town square. For a broader range of choices and more nightlife, Tamarindo is not that far away.

The catamaran and the waterfall tours sound good. Just make sure to save some time for relaxation at playa Conchal.

We are in the beginning stages of planning this trip in April, but we are making certain that Rio Celeste is on there and we want to do some rafting near la Fortuna.
